Job Responsibilities
This posting is recruiting for multiple vacancies.
The Violent Crimes Case Reduction Unit (VCCRU) partners with the General and Special Prosecution section of the Criminal Division to combat the backlog of violent crimes in circuits around the state. Attorneys will focus on moving violent crimes in a specific circuit, heavily emphasizing trial work. Attorneys interested in this position should be comfortable preparing murders, sexual assaults, and other violent crimes for trial in a condensed time frame. Support will be provided to accommodate the condensed time frame.
Under limited supervision, you will perform professional legal work for the State, its subdivisions, and officials. Primarily assigned to the General and Special Prosecution Unit of the Criminal Division.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
Juris Doctorate Degree and a minimum of ten years of experience practicing in a Public Defender's or Solicitor's Office, or equivalent experience in Criminal Prosecution/Defense.
Necessary Requirements: Must be a member of the SC Bar in good standing and have completed the 403 requirements.
Additional Requirements:
This position may require overnight travel.
This position may require the employee to work evenings and weekends.
This position requires up-to-date certification(s)
This position may require employees to travel and transport files.

- Case Intake and Evaluation: Assists in the cases assigned immediately upon receipt to establish priority by the age of the case, repeat offending, jail/bond status, and other important factors as identified.
- Case Management and Progression: Advances the case through the judicial system appropriately.
- Case Disposition: Seeks a just resolution in all cases.
- Docket Management: Handles their caseload and provides relevant information to the team to assist in trial preparation.
- Communication: Provides location updates, maintains law enforcement relationships, and stays aligned with the prosecution section's policies and best practices.
- Miscellaneous Matters: Handles miscellaneous matters assigned by the AG, CDAG, DAG, SADAG, or ADAG.
