Position Title: Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction
Department: District Office/ Curriculum and Instruction
Reports to: Superintendent
Status: Certified (Overtime Exempt)
SUMMARY
To assist the Superintendent effectively in the task of providing leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services for the school district.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Mississippi certificate in Educational Administration and Supervision
Master's degree in Educational Administration and Supervision
Five years' experience in educational administration
Building level Administrative experience preferred
Knowledge of Education Employment Procedures Law and related due process procedures
Alternative and supplemental requirements as the Superintendent and the School Board may find appropriate and necessary
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates and supervises the curriculum development process for the district
Interprets the present curriculum and proposed curriculum changes to the Board, the administration, the staff and the general public
Assists the Superintendent in developing, implementing, evaluating, and improving district instructional policies, programs, and procedures to guide and support classroom instruction
Provides leadership in the formulation, implementation, evaluation, and upgrading of the District's Instructional Management Plan
Provides leadership to maintain continuous and evolving curriculum development
Assists school principals and assistant principals in their roles as instructional leaders in their schools
Periodically reports the status of all programs to the Superintendent and to the School Board as the Superintendent may request
Supervises and coordinates state and regional accreditation processes
Supervises and coordinates district level professional development needs
Develops and implements procedures for selecting state-adopted textbooks and other instructional materials
Plans and manages a departmental budget; assists in the development of the district budget
Serves as the Chairperson for the District's Academic Review Committee
Supervises the EWS (Early Warning System) Intervention process for all schools
Oversees the District's MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Teams at the District and School Levels
Regularly monitors each program supervised with on-site visits and other contact interaction
Assists principals and teachers to make use of new technologies to improve instruction and instructional management
Assists principals to plan and implement programs based on identified student needs and resources available for the number of students enrolled
Evaluates and supervises department heads and principals annually as designated by the Superintendent
Chairs various committees having curriculum or instructional charges
Serves as Coordinator for all professional development activities for curriculum and instructional needs for staff
Serves as Acting Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent as designated by the Superintendent
Coordinates the grading policy recommendations and processes
Oversees the District's Gifted Education Program and Services (FLAG)
Provides professional growth and development through staff development programs, professional meetings, study of professional literature, and information from MDE or other sources
Attends Board meetings and prepares such reports for the Board as the Superintendent may request
Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance
Supports the Simpson County School District's Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan
Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises Curriculum Staff; Assist with Support and Supervision of Principals and Schools regarding Curriculum implementation, needs and development. Professional Development needs of district personnel. Director of Federal Programs and Testing, Director of Support Services, Director of Technology and the Drop-out Prevention Coordinator.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve -month year; 235 days Salary based on the Simpson County School District's Approved Scale.
