Overview
Reporting directly to the VP/GM of Workforce Health Solutions, the Senior Director, Lab Operations - WHS is responsible for leading a large, complex, NLCP and SAMSHA regulated drug testing laboratory. This includes oversight of daily operations, development and execution of lab automation strategy, driving continuous improvement, successfully managing regular audits and inspections, and ensuring compliance to regulatory standards and legal requirements.
Annual specimen volume is 8M - 9M.

Responsibilities
- Develop and execute laboratory automation strategy to drive on-going improvements in financial/cost management and customer metrics.
- Partner with internal stakeholders, R&D, compliance, sales and customers to develop metrics and standards that drive strong execution.
- Lead a direct report team of Lab Directors / Managers to meet productivity, quality, and financial/budget expectations. Serve as a visible role model to drive continuous improvement, implement effective change management in support of changes, delegate work, and build a strong leadership bench.
- Partner with Workforce Enablement to develop quarterly and monthly staffing forecasts to achieve TAT and Quality Standards.
- Oversee designated Lab Responsible Person(s) to ensure that end-to-end, CAP, NLCP and SAMSHA mandatory guidelines are implemented and followed.
- Collaborate with regulatory and compliance to identify and drive adherence to all scientific and regulatory standards.
- As needed, work closely with legal teams to prepare for and serve as an expert witness in support of legal proceedings.
- Achieve successful outcomes on all regulatory audits and reviews.
- Develops and maintains effective industry relationships to stay current on best practices and industry changes.
- Ensure compliance with all College of American Pathologists (CAP), National Laboratory Certification Program (NLCP), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Department of Transportation (DOT), Health and Human Services (HHS) and all other relevant Federal and State agency requirements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years progressive management experience, including clinical and/or SAMSHA laboratory experience.
- 5 years' experience driving technology automation in a lab environments
- Prior experience applying QMS, Continuous Improvement, LEAN, ISO Standards or Blackbelt Tools to drive process improvement.
- Breadth of knowledge related to lab equipment, lab processes and application of Standard Operating Procedures to lab operations.
- Strong leadership and people development skills
- Skilled in driving change and innovation
- Ability to communicate at varying levels within an organization including frontline, supervisory, technical experts, PhD level team members and executive leadership
- People Leader Responsibility: up to 6-8 Director / Manager Level reports + 350-400 Indirect Reports
- Day to day work environment flexes between office and lab with exposure to specimens including, but not limited to, urine, oral fluids, hair and other specimen types and chemical reagents.
- Bachelor's Degree(Required); Master's Degree preferred
