Job Description
The SHS Controller is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling the accounting and related functions of the Sears Home Services business unit, reports operational financial results, and oversees systems processes/records/policies necessary to comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP) and the informational needs of management. Ultimately responsible for monthly and year end financial statements and supporting the preparation of annual budgets and operating plans.
Responsibilities/Skills/Experience Requirements
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs day to day operations of all accounting processes for P&L, balance sheet, and related reconciliations for the Sears Home Services business
Supports the Business Controller, Transform by managing the daily execution of the revenue recognition process for the Sears Home Services business; Ensures timely and accurate recording of cost of sales and monitor operating expenses to maintain budget compliance within the Sears Home Services business unit
Drives operational excellence for business financial processes and continuously improve processes, controls, and scalability across the Sears Home Services business
Performs in-depth financial analysis for P&L and Balance Sheet, including variance analysis and trend analysis, to provide relevant insights to senior management on a timely basis
Effectively communicates financial results and insights to the Business Controller, Transform and other key stakeholders within the organization
Manages relationships with key internal stakeholders, coordinating audit activities, and ensuring efficient and successful audit processes
Prepares and reviews various journal entries related to the month end close process for the Sears Home Services business
Supports special projects and business initiatives as needed
Performs supervisory functions, including but not limited to, making employment decisions regarding hiring, promoting, demoting and terminating, conducting performance appraisals and coaching and developing associates
REQUIRED SKILLS:
Minimum 8 years of progressive Accounting and Controllership experience with at least 2 years as a Controller of a business unit or Assistant Controller in large or medium sized public and private companies across diverse sectors (services, retail, technology, manufacturing, etc.)
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Strong knowledge of GAAP
Excellent communication skills both written and oral with all levels and functions within the organization
Track record of leading teams (~up to 5 headcount)
Track record of partnering effectively with different levels in the organization (Operations, Divisional Finance)
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
Analytical mindset and a track record of making data-driven decisions
High degree of integrity and commitment to ethical financial practices
Must have Netsuite ERP experience
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Public accounting experience / CPA a plus
