ABOUT MANNA:

MANNA is a nonprofit organization in Philadelphia that provides nutrition services to improve health for people with serious illnesses who need nourishment to heal. By providing medically tailored meals and nutrition education, we empower people to improve their health and quality of life.

Over the past 30+ years, MANNA has been a leader in Food is Medicine through the provision of evidence-based nutrition services. MANNA brings together dietitians, chefs, drivers, and thousands of volunteers to cook and deliver nutritious, therapeutic meals, and provides nutrition counseling and education to neighbors who are battling serious illnesses such as cancer, renal disease, and HIV/AIDS. After moving to a new, state-of-the-art facility and completing an in-depth business planning process, we are building a modernized organizational structure to support the scale and complexity of our growing and evolving work.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Healthcare Business Development is a key member of MANNA's executive leadership team and should demonstrate a strong knowledge of and experience in the healthcare industry, with a proven track record of driving business growth and forming strategic partnerships. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be highly motivated, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. With a focus on developing and executing MANNA's fee-for-service business plan, this position will be responsible for understanding and addressing the competitive Food Is Medicine landscape, identifying and securing new healthcare business opportunities to provide medically tailored meals and nutrition counseling/education services to clients, performing successful contract negotiations, managing new and existing contracts, and building annual revenue forecasts for each fiscal year. Using evidence from MANNA's research and evaluation initiatives and engaging with public and private stakeholders across the healthcare field, this position aims to retain and expand MANNA's fee-for-service opportunities to increase reimbursements from Medicare, Medicaid, and private payors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Identify new and expand MANNA's existing revenue streams by exploring sustainable and diverse healthcare business opportunities and growth strategies/initiatives that are aligned with the organization's strategic plan.
  • Develop and implement fee-for-service strategic business development plans with built-in monitoring and reporting performance metrics.
  • Provide regular updates to the COO on business development activities and progress.
  • Collaborate with MANNA's CAO and Development team to develop new healthcare business promotional materials and campaigns.
  • Serve as the primary lead of contract negotiations, overseeing the full contracting process with prospective partners including the referral process, bi-directional program planning and integration activities, and executing new growth strategies and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the COO and internal teams to ensure contracting terms align with MANNA's operational practices and goals.
  • Upon contract execution, identify key stakeholders for contract success to support and grow sustainable revenue.
  • Identify data collection and sharing opportunities within healthcare business partnerships to assist the MANNA Institute with program outcome measurements and evaluation.
  • Oversee the Healthcare Partnerships Manager, who provides contract account management, to ensure customer satisfaction with all aspects of MANNA's delivery of services, patient health management, performance goals, and outcomes.
  • Accountable for developing, managing, and successfully meeting overall annual fiscal year revenue projections for healthcare business partnerships.
  • Work with MANNA's policy team to identify and develop strategies to increase the impact of MANNA's services by building strategic relationships with key stakeholders and developing business opportunities and pitches based on existing or upcoming research.
  • Possess and maintain a strong understanding of HIPAA and other healthcare laws and regulations that impact healthcare contracts, and work with MANNA's Compliance team, to mitigate risks by ensuring compliance with healthcare industry standards.

OTHER DUTIES:
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and best practices, including CMS updates and changes, conduct frequent market research, and attend industry conferences and events to network and promote the organization.
  • Commitment to MANNA's mission and values.
  • Participate in staff meetings, attend MANNA and community events, and otherwise contribute to strengthening the deep roots within our community, both internally and externally.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, or related field; master's degree preferred.
  • 5 -10 years of proven business development and strategic planning experience in healthcare and/or nonprofit organizations.
  • Demonstrated contract negotiation and project management experience.
  • Strong understanding of the healthcare market, including trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Experience with market research and analysis.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including excellent communication skills, and ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with external partners, policymakers, and MANNA board, volunteers, and staff.
  • Ability to commute for work-related meetings, conferences, and events with a valid driver's license.

All offers of employment at MANNA are contingent upon successful results of our standard credentialing process, which includes a criminal background investigation, a drug screen, reference checks, and submission of mandated proof of the COVID-19 vaccine. MANNA currently offers a one-day-a-week remote work policy. Nights and weekends may be required as necessary to support MANNA events and other fundraising activities.

SALARY: $120,000 - $135,000, consummate on experience
