Job Summary
The successful individual will be working in a research lab at UCSF dedicated to better understanding the role of mitochondrial protein-encoding genes in neuroinflammatory diseases, with focus on Alzheimer's disease. This is a laboratory-based research position focusing on investigating cellular mechanisms involved in mitochondrial and lipid metabolism using brain microglia, astrocytes, and neuron populations in vitro. In addition, by studying mice with specific transgenes, the role of specific molecules involved in these processes/diseases will be assessed.
Under general supervision, the Staff Research Associate III will be involved in investigating abnormal phenotypes and pathogenesis in animal models of Alzheimer's disease; will undertake research project in collaboration with supervisor, making innovative contributions pertaining to laboratory and/or field experimental procedures which may not change the course of an investigation but do indicate a significant independent contribution beyond the journey level. Experiments include dissection and tissue analysis, DNA isolation and PCR genotyping, immunohistochemistry, microscopy (confocal and electron), protein and RNA quantification, cell culture techniques, flow cytometry and cell sorting. The ideal candidate will be excited about this work and interested in pursuing an academic career in translational research.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
