ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking an inquisitive and collaborative scientist with a robust neuroscience background to join our Preclinical Programs team. You will play a key role in defining, implementing, and executing on our experimental plan to identify suitable drug candidates. You will work within a team that designs and evaluates product candidates to fill our drug discovery pipeline with differentiated genomic medicines based on our core epigenetic modulation technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Our successful candidate will:
- Utilize neuroscience domain expertise to contribute to Chroma's overall corporate strategy to address unmet need in CNS, neurodegenerative, and/or neuromuscular diseases
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making to successfully launch CNS programs and progress them to development candidate stage and IND-enabling activities
- Establish in vitro cell models and conduct experiments to characterize lead drug candidates' efficacy and specificity
- Participate as a key member of a cross-functional team to design and implement strategies to screen, triage and prioritize drug candidates
- Develop relationships with collaborators to successfully develop research plans and analyze/interpret data
- Contribute positively to the culture of a young company to foster a healthy and exciting work environment
- Adept at balancing thoughtful strategic planning with exceptional execution and analysis of bench experiments, maintaining data in an organized manner
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills, including an ability to combine attention to experimental detail with a big picture perspective
- Impactful leadership skills and demonstrated ability to manage and mentor junior scientists
- Strong oral and written communication skills with experience presenting scientific research to internal teams and external forums

- Adept at prioritizing and managing multiple tasks simultaneously, integrating cross- functional issues, and balancing competing priorities effectively

- Passionate, adaptable, and keen on working in the fast-paced biotech startup space to drive cutting-edge science
- PhD in Neuroscience, Molecular and Cell Biology, Genomics, Stem Cells, Bioengineering, or equivalent, with a minimum of 2 years of working experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry
- Deep knowledge and experience in early-stage discovery research applying genomic therapies (ex. RNA, oligonucleotide, gene editing, gene therapy) to CNS/neuromuscular diseases
- Extensive experience in developing cell-based assays, including work with primary neurons and other iPSC-derived CNS cell types
- Proficiency in common hands-on techniques in molecular biology and imaging (ELISA, RT-qPCR, IHC/ICC, confocal imaging)
- Experience with in vitro pharmacology and quantitative methods; familiarity with in vivo pharmacology a plus
- Familiarity with CRISPR technologies strongly preferred
- Strong experimental design and problem-solving skills, demonstrated by a publication record
- Prior experience with diverse delivery technologies, including transfection/nucleofection, lipid nanoparticles, and viral vectors/particles; vector and/or protein engineering experience preferred
