Job Summary
The Chief of Staff leads strategic initiatives and projects as assigned by the Superintendent to ensure the viable operation of the Granite School District. Maintains constant and timely communication with the Superintendent regarding interdepartmental operations. Ensures that the Superintendent's directives are implemented and represents the Granite School District. The Chief of Staff works closely with the superintendent and other assistant superintendents to develop the vision for Granite District schools. The Chief of Staff carries out a variety of administrative duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Essential Functions
  • Will serve as the point of contact and maintain the operations of the district in the absence of the Superintendent.
  • Will oversee and direct efforts related to the District Improvement Steering Committee (DISC)
  • Oversees the development, monitoring, implementation and communication efforts tied to the District Strategic Plan
  • Provides leadership and support in the assessment and tracking of progress toward the district's goals and priorities
  • Organizes, coordinates, and directs work on special projects as assigned by the Superintendent to accomplish stated goals
  • Serves as a leading member of the Superintendent's Executive Leadership Team (ELT)
  • Collaborates across internal departments by driving communication, information sharing, and alignment of cross-team initiatives
  • Builds coalitions, works collaboratively, and facilitates communication with diverse stakeholders. Including students, families, communities, municipalities, advocacy groups, legislators, and partners to effectively represent the Superintendent and the Granite School District.
  • Serves as point of contact on issues that haven't been assigned to other central office departments.
  • Facilitates a highly coordinated effort internally as it influences and is influenced by external realities.
  • Assists the Superintendent with school site visits
  • Assists the Superintendent in directing and coordinating programs and finances of the school district, working with and for the board of education
  • Promotes communication and cooperation throughout the district to create a spirit of unity in the organization

Required Education, Training and Qualifications
  • Applicant must have a current Utah Administrative/Supervisory License
  • Requires a Utah State Board of Education cleared criminal background check
  • Requires successful teaching experience in elementary, secondary or special education
Required Prior Experience
  • Applicant must have minimum three years of successful building head principal experience
  • Internal applicants preferred
Assigned Decision Making
  • Assists superintendent in coordinating district efforts, with related activities, of Granite School DIstrict as well as other school districts and agencies.

Non-Supervisory Interaction
  • Interacts and collaborates with employees, board members, patrons, vendors, administrators and secretaries in schools.
  • Works with various department secretaries, coordinators, managers and directors.
  • Works positively and collaboratively with District departments including administrators and secretaries.
  • Works with employees for certifications of time worked.
  • Interacts with community partners to implement programming and secure donations for program student incentives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people.
  • Able to create and support a team-based environment between divisions and within the assigned departments.
Supervisory Responsibility
  • When the Superintendent is absent, this position will take on Superintendent's supervisory responsibilities.
Budget Responsibility
  • Assists Superintendent in directing the preparation, management and presentation of district budgets required to finance the operation of district efforts.

Working Environment
  • Work takes place in a typical school and office environment.
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
