We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to prepares simple plans, designs, calculations, costs and bills of material, in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings or other specifications. Do you have experience executing technical work under general guidance such as reporting, forecasting, analyzing, assessing and interpreting complex information relating to assigned Infrastructure systems? What you will be doing!

  • Work with operations to continuously monitor both condition and performance of systems to identify:
    • Deficiencies and their associated risk
    • Opportunities for optimization and their potential rewards
    • Recommended actions
    • Planning to execute those actions
  • Define requirements of new construction or existing building / system overhaul
  • Review designs
  • Accept technical aspect of turnover of new systems
  • Work with environmental remediation mission to:
  • Define turnover requirements of older buildings
  • Review turnover plans
  • Sign technical portions of turnover documents
  • Work with Asset Management Department to:
    • Interpret and analyze the Asset Management Risk Register and identify items to disposition.
    • Solicit input from the Facility Management department, operators, OEM suppliers and consultants to develop a prioritized list of planned investments to contribute to the infrastructure asset group asset management plan.
  • Work with regulatory and program authorities (TSSA, ESA, OSH) to ensure that systems are configured and maintained per regulation.
  • Use internal process to maintain infrastructure configuration management (ECC, IWC etc.)


What we are looking for:

  • Bachelors (Honour) in Electrical Engineering from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification in that organization.
  • Professional Engineer (P. Eng) in the province of Ontario, or eligible to apply for P.Eng.
  • Experience with infrastructure systems (steam, condensate, service water, etc.) and building mechanical systems design, maintenance and operation is an asset.
  • Training, certifications and experience in the following areas will be considered an asset: Codes & Standards related to discipline, sustainability, Asset Management, Project Management (PMP), Risk Management (RMP) and/or more.
  • Excellent understanding of building mechanical systems and/or infrastructure systems.
  • Computer literate in general business software applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to negotiate and persuade.
  • Knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada


Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.

Location of Work - Hybrid Onsite Eligible

  • CNL works with employees across our Canadian locations to enable remote work when possible. This role requires that the majority of time worked be at CNL's Chalk River Laboratory site while also providing opportunities to work remotely, where possible, if desired by the employee.
