About the team and position

We're looking for an experienced and collaborative Safe & Secure Leader to implement an enterprise program that would provide support to our network of 100+ facilities across the U.S. The Safe & Secure Leader will work closely with the Director of Enterprise Security in supporting the development of the program, but will be primarily focused on implementing and executing the program within our facilities. Key to implementation will be the development of a team of Safe & Secure Protection professionals who can provide partnership and expertise to our facility leaders. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in creating and implementing risk mitigation programs for companies with thousands of employees across varied US locations preferably in both retail and distribution or storage settings. The ideal candidate must possess leadership and people management skills, superior communication skills, quantitative rigor, and must be capable of working independently and collaboratively with Carvana's varied operational functions. Most importantly, you will see your insights have an immediate, tangible impact every day in a disruptive and rapidly growing company. The position is field based and reports directly to the Senior Director of Enterprise Security.

What you'll be doing
  • Build, Develop, and Lead a Team of Safe & Secure leaders who will provide support and expertise to various operational groups within Carvana's network of facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading a high performing team across a large geographic area in a fast paced environment
  • Leverage your industry knowledge and understanding of the Carvana business to support the development of the Enterprise Security Program. Be a "voice of the facilities" in ensuring the needs of the businesses are met. Build proactive relationships to gain insight on key business issues and work proactively with leaders across the network to provide possible solutions to be integrated in the enterprise program.
  • Work with field leaders (Operations, Logistics, Market Operations, Wholesale, and HR) to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of the enterprise security program at all facilities. Leverage your leadership skills to explain the why behind program initiatives, define the benefits to enable support, champion the change curve, utilize data to ensure effective implementation, and be a role model to engage all
  • Provide day to day supervision of the Field Safe & Secure Team. Define clear responsibilities, ensure timely prioritization, help remove roadblocks that interfere with your Team's forward progress, and ensure a closed loop process is in place to drive execution.
  • In partnership with the Enterprise Safety Team and the respective Carvana Business Unit - support the implementation of EH&S protocols in the various facilities. Support should include training, protocol coaching, site assessments and improvement plans, recognition, and other actions to drive a culture of safety in each location.
  • Be an active participant in field based business processes. Invest time in visiting facilities, working with the teams to identify and understand risks, collaboratively develop possible solutions, and work with key partners to bring about effective and efficient mitigation plans.
  • Utilize various Carvana data sources to develop and implement exception based reporting that will prioritize issues and engage the appropriate team to help seek solutions.
  • Design, track, and report on key performance indicators and exception based reporting to help mitigate risk and identify trends and root causes, including working with Risk and Operations groups to determine how to collect, store, and organize data relevant to field Safe & Secure.
  • Partner with various vendors to ensure Safe & Secure technology and services are being delivered in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Ensure investigations of internal and external theft and fraud are properly conducted, in close partnership with HR and applicable operating departments.
  • Create and iterate upon efficient periodic facility security assessment procedures and ensure that the Safe & Secure team effectively performs same.
  • Interface directly with law enforcement for open cases and relationship building.
  • Foster open and productive working relationships with other applicable company departments.
  • Exercise prudent discretion regarding confidential and sensitive personnel information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Domestic travel required - 50%.

  • Safe & Secure Field Budget Actual vs. Plan.
  • Team Turnover Actual versus Plan.
  • Third Party Security Actual versus Plan ( Field Locations Only ).
  • WC and GL Claims vs. Plan.
  • Ready Now Promotable Candidates ( Plan Number ).

What you should know/have
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Advanced degree preferred.
  • At least 15 years of Asset Protection, Loss Prevention, or Safe & Secure leadership experience, preferably including distribution, warehousing, and fulfillment.
  • At least 12 years of experience overseeing safety and security at multiple locations simultaneously.
  • At least 10 years' experience directly supervising and managing a team across a wide geographic area.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven skill set.
  • Experience implementing Risk Mitigation programs to improve company profitability in collaboration with partners within a complex business environment.
  • Experience working closely and communicating effectively with diverse set of stakeholders in an ever-changing, rapid growth environment with tight deadlines; Ability to take initiative in a constantly-changing work environment while maintaining flexibility and a collaborative attitude.
  • Able to help create, develop and implement process improvement(s).
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Project Management Experience.
  • Crisis Management Leadership experience.
  • Experience managing capital and expense budgets.
  • Experience leading OSHA Program implementation within a distribution, warehousing, and fulfillment environment.
  • Must promote the company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners.
  • Knowledge of how to utilize Microsoft systems.
  • Six Sigma Training - Green Belt preferred.
  • OSHA 30 Hour Training Certification / 4+ Years of OSHA Leadership experience preferred.
