Job Summary
Loudoun County is seeking an attorney with experience in employment law and an interest in labor law. The attorney will join the County's labor team and learn about collective bargaining while assisting with the negotiation of a collective bargaining agreement. This attorney will work on drafting collective bargaining and other labor relations agreements and provide legal representation to County management in labor-related mediation, arbitration and grievance proceedings. Principle duties include drafting, reviewing and interpreting legal documents, defending or initiating litigation on behalf of the County, conducting legal research and providing legal advice and other legal services to County departments/agencies as required or assigned. The successful candidate must be able to work independently, prioritize workload, work effectively with staff, and attend night meetings as needed. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Experience in employment law is a preferred qualification.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be a member of the Virginia State Bar or eligible for admission within a reasonable time frame.
While this position is classified as a Senior Assistant County Attorney, it may be filled at a lower Assistant County Attorney level if the successful candidate does not meet the requirements of a Senior Assistant.
A Senior Assistant County Attorney position requires education and experience equivalent to a Juris Doctorate from an accredited Law School (or equivalent as state law provides); membership in the Virginia State Bar (in good standing); at least three (3) years of experience as a licensed practicing attorney, including at least two (2) years of experience in local government or a specific relevant practice area, with a hiring range up to $169,423.06, depending on qualifications.
An Assistant County Attorney position requires education and experience equivalent to a Juris Doctorate from an accredited Law School (or equivalent as state law provides); membership in the Virginia State Bar (in good standing), with a hiring range up to $139,845.75, depending on qualifications.
