How can you make an impact?

As a Senior UX Designer - Innovation, on the Higher Education team you will create a broad array of designs for various digital products and services offered by McGraw Hill. You should have an eye for clean and artful design, possess superior visual design skills, and be able to translate high-level requirements into interaction flows and artifacts. You will then transform them into beautiful, intuitive, and functional user interfaces. As the Senior UX Designer, you will collaborate with various agile teams to define innovative solutions for the product direction, all while establishing and promoting design guidelines and best practices including accessibility. This is a remote position open to applicants within the United States and requires up to 25% travel for the year. Preference will be given to applicants who reside in New York, New Jersey, or Boston area.

What you will do:
  • Translating stakeholder requirements into user flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes that lead to intuitive user experiences.
  • Designing complex user interfaces rich in information and interactivity by creating a visual hierarchy through aesthetic clarity.
  • Creating interfaces that are not only WCAG 2.1 compliant, but also intuitive and usable by users across the spectrum of abilities.
  • Working quickly, efficiently, and iteratively with the Innovation Product team to create mockups and specs for Developers (internal and 3rd party partners)
  • Collaborating with other designers within the organization for big-picture awareness and ensuring consistent use of Ul libraries and patterns.
  • Leading & Partnering with Researchers to drive user research and iterate on designs based on findings.
  • Staying abreast with competitor products and industry trends.

We're looking for someone who has:
  • BA/BFA degree in Design (e.g. interaction, graphic, visual communications, product, industrial), HCI, CS, or a related field or equivalent qualification in computer sciences/IT
  • 5+ years of UX design experience. Preferably experience in designing complex solutions for complete digital environments
  • A strong portfolio of projects demonstrating varied experiences across digital applications from web to mobile.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates strong visual design
  • Demonstration of user-centric design throughout the design process.
  • Strong visual acuity and knowledge of good design principles/practices.
  • Ability to iterate with teams to bring ideas to visual completion.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
  • Excitement to collaborate with world-class product and development teams.
  • A self-starter, independent thinker, curious, and creative person with ambition and passion.
  • Experience and knowledge of user research practices.
  • Expertise in standard UX software such as Figma, Sketch, InVision, and Adobe CC
  • Familiarity with advanced prototyping tools like Axure, and UXPin along with basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript is helpful.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility guidelines and experience in designing accessible products.
  • Edtech experience is preferred.

The pay range for this position is between $55,000 and $140,000 annually, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. An annual bonus plan may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical and/or other benefits, depending on the position offered.
