Summary of Position: (Provide a brief narrative, one or two sentences, that highlights the primary purpose to the organization and key responsibilities of the job).

Designs, develops, and tests electrical equipment, components, circuits, or systems. Applies mathematical and engineering principles and methods to designs. Performs extensive testing and validation of designs to ensure reliability, performance, electromagnetic interference (EMI) and safety requirements are achieved. Conducts research and studies new technologies to innovate and design solutions or products.

Collaborates with other Engineers on moderately complex aspects of projects. Work is generally independent.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities: (State the essential functions of the job, organized from most to least essential. Include leadership and managerial responsibilities, if applicable).

  • Collaborate with other Engineers to design new products or product enhancements.
  • Follow Engineering Department Processes.
  • Design electrical components and assemblies to meet specified requirements.
  • Utilize electrical CAD software to design printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs).
    • Create Schematic drawings for each new PCB.
    • Utilize Programmable Logic Device (PLD) and Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) CAD software and VHDL to design and test programmable logic components of PCBAs.
  • Document PCB layout design rules to achieve PCBA performance including meeting EMI emissions requirements.
  • Work with PCB development services to design the artwork for multi-layer PCBs.
  • Create test plans and tools to verify new designs.
  • Develop embedded firmware
  • Thoroughly test new designs to verify requirements are met.
  • Collaborate with other Engineers to analyze and troubleshoot electrical issues or failures reported by customers and/or Operations to identify root causes and develop solutions.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: (List the minimum required education, prior experience, certifications, licenses, and specialized areas of knowledge required to adequately perform the essential functions of the job).

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • Requires 4-7 years of related experience.
  • Proficient with electrical components including magnetic, optical and other sensors, motors, solenoids and PCBA design to interface with such sensors.
  • Proficient with high-speed analog and digital circuit design including analog signal conditioning, A/D and D/A converters, CPUs and microcontrollers.
  • Proficient with VHDL
  • Proficient with electrical PCB/PCBA/FPGA CAD software
    • Schematic capture - Orcad, Altium preferred
    • FPGA design and simulation - Xilinx ISE, Efinix Efinity, Intel Quartus, Modelsim preferred
  • Proficient with desktop computers and MS Windows desktop applications

  • The primary work location is the Digital Check Corp. office in Novi, MI with the possibility for some amount of work from home.
  • Very minimal travel
