Job Summary:

As a Safety Manager, you will be responsible for leading, organizing, and directing a team of safety supervisors and observers to perform safety related duties and training within the vegetation management & tree trimming industry. Duties will be performed within the minimum approach distance of energized utility lines and critical infrastructure. This position is responsible for program management and personnel management.

Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Organize and lead a safety team to complete tasks and program requirements
  • Create documents and trainings for company safety programs
  • Implement and lead company safety programs
  • Present trainings, briefings, and presentations
  • Assist in training evaluations of crews and field personnel
  • Maintain requirements and certification to work within the minimum approach distance of energized utility lines
  • Create schedules and manage daily activities of supervised personnel
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable OSHA, ANSI, and vendor safety requirements
  • Conduct investigations (root cause analysis), notifications and create reports of safety incidents or violations
  • Attend incident, safety and investigation meetings as required
  • Represent the company at meetings, briefs, and conferences
  • Maintain knowledge of safe tree trimming and vegetation management practices
  • Maintain knowledge of safe heavy equipment operations
  • Conduct in the field assessments of crews, equipment, and procedures
  • Conduct annual reviews of all safety programs, trainings, and evaluations
  • Responsible for conflict resolution of supervised personnel
  • Conduct risk assessments and apply mitigation techniques
  • Utilize safety software and programs to report and track compliance with vendor, state, and federal requirements.
  • Conduct trend analysis of industry and company safety incidents and violations
  • Provide weekly and monthly safety reports to company leadership and executives
  • Work well within a team to complete projects and tasks
  • Must be able to work outdoors, year-round in varying environments
  • Must be able to work in, around and amongst poisonous plants and noxious vegetation
  • Other tasks as required


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Experience: Greater than 10 years of experience in Utility line clearance and Right-of-Way (ROW) vegetation management operations
  • ISA Certified Arborist or ISA Certified Utility Arborist (ISA)
  • Certified Tree Safety Professional (CTSP)
  • Valid Driver License


Preferred Qualifications/Education:

  • OSHA 30
  • Qualified Applicator License (QAL)
  • Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC)
  • Associates Degree
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Commercial Driver License: Class A or B
  • TRAQ Certification
  • Bilingual in Spanish to English


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of tree trimming, vegetation management and forestry industries
  • Knowledge of tree trimming, climbing, equipment and techniques within utility ROW industry
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to lead teams dispersed across large geographic areas
  • Ability to operate light equipment: chainsaw, blowers, chippers, pole pruners.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment.
  • Ability to utilize technology to complete duties and tasks
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PDF's, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI and applicable safety requirements related to tree trimming
  • Knowledge of OSHA, ANSI and applicable safety requirements related to equipment operations
  • Knowledge of safety requirements related to commercial on-highway vehicles
  • Ability to motivate self and others
  • Ability to think critically
  • Ability to resolve conflicts


Probationary Period:

  • 90-day probation period


  • Travel:

    • This position is expected to travel to project sites and locations within California (Operating Area)


    Work Environment:

    While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to extreme heat and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
