Position Summary

NORD is seeking a dynamic and experienced communications professional to join our team and help advance our mission. Reporting to the Director of Content, the Communications Manager will serve as a communications liaison across departments and aide in the development and management of communications strategies, materials, and digital media content with a focus on NORD's medical affairs, research and patient care programs and partnerships. This role requires a strategic thinker and doer with excellent written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to multiple audiences.

This position will play a central role in shaping the organization's communications initiatives to educate and engage target audiences in NORD's medical affairs programs and services and to elevate NORD's role and impact in rare disease patient care and research.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as an internal marketing communications expert, liaison and collaborator across Medical Affairs departments and staff.

Draft press releases, blogs, and other communications materials to effectively communicate NORD's programs, impact, partnerships, and campaigns.

Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to amplify the NORD Rare Disease Centers of Excellence program to key audiences and through multiple communications channels.

Oversee Website content management for targeted audiences and stakeholders.

Assist in program/topic key message development and key executives and organizational spokespeople for media interviews and public appearances.

Assist with incoming media inquiries and proactive earned media campaigns, where applicable.

Manage and implement all day-to-day topic/department specific marketing communications activities across a variety of work streams.

Ensure program deadlines are met while managing multiple projects and managing agency or freelance support.

Support the creation and management of annual budgets and strategic plans.

Assist in the creation of branded marketing materials, key messaging, and storyline development for paid, earned, and owned media opportunities and content placement.

Education/Experience

Bachelor's Degree required, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, English, Marketing, or related field.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in communications and healthcare, pharmaceutical or biotech communications.

Experience in translating complex medical and scientific data and information into messaging, visuals, and other communications materials that the public and media can easily understand.

Experience in patient care, medical/healthcare communications and/or knowledge of drug development, clinical trials and scientific and medical communications is required.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; strong copy editing and copy writing skills.

Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Proficient skills and knowledge in paid, owned, and earned media.

Ability to provide strategic and creative communications solutions and work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to develop and implement successful communications, marketing, and public relations campaigns and tools.

A team-oriented player and willingness to pitch-in where needed.

Product marketing communications a plus.

Intellectual curiosity is essential; interesting in keeping a close pulse on industry, competitor and partner news and the ability to identify and act upon opportunities for paid, earned, and owned content storylines, and partnerships.

Ability to see the big picture and manage details, along with an agile approach to writing across all mediums.

Strong organizational abilities and superior attention to detail.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Analytics, WordPress, Meltwater, PRNewswire/Cision, Sprout Social or other social media management tools; and willingness to learn new systems as required.

Working Conditions

This position may be fully telecommuting or hybrid to any of NORD's offices (Washington, DC, Danbury, CT or Quincy, MA). Occasional travel is required.
