The North Plainfield School District, a culturally diverse school district in Somerset County serving 3,700 students Pre-K through grade 12, seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic and innovative professional for the position of Math Instructional coach (K-5) for the District.

For those still in the process of attaining certification, please know that the North Plainfield District is approved for participation in the NJDOE Limited Certificate Program which may allow you to work in a full time role as you complete your final certification requirement.

The Math Instructional Coach leads the development and improvement for K-5 teachers via training, informal, nonevaluative observations, model lessons, feedback conversations, data analysis, and more. The Math Coach serves as the content expert and provides support on curriculum, high-quality interactions, and best practices.

Qualifications & Major Responsibilities/Duties:
  • Teach a 4th-grade mathematics class to serve as a model classroom.
  • Support grade-specific content areas, while adhering to state requirements.
  • Support staff with topics such as student engagement, higher-level thinking and questioning, and rigorous instruction.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with teacher cohorts.
  • Work with building and district administrators and applicable PLCs to assist in accomplishing goals, objectives, and create activities.
  • Attend applicable professional conferences and workshops and turn-key information.
  • Guide teachers in leading effective data-driven conversations with students and peers.
  • Assist teachers and administrators with organizing, analyzing, and drawing actionable conclusions based on formative assessment data and classroom visits.
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement the plan, teach, debrief model to refine best practices. Conduct classroom visits in a non-evaluative supporting structure, providing feedback on lessons and model lessons.
  • Attend trainings, grade-level meetings, school meetings, and coaching professional development. Assures cohesion in between consultant visitations.
  • Utilize current district data (iReady and common assessments) to drive instructional needs. Work with the leadership team in the creation of the school's professional development plan with specific, measurable, and attainable benchmarks for teacher and student performance.
  • Identify, design, and implement additional professional development during in-service days. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the assigned supervisor.


Additional Information:
  • Minimum of 5 highly effective years of experience as a certified math teacher or Coach
  • Strong knowledge of how children learn mathematical concepts
  • Knowledge and experience working with Go Math
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish preferred; not required
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of grade-level standards Ability to disaggregate, interpret, and analyze assessment data
  • Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners


Term: 10-month position
