The Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center (BCAMSC) is a unique, exciting partnership with 15 school districts, offering a rich, diversified, college preparatory program in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Established in [redacted] with its first enrollment in [redacted], the BCAMSC is the result of a collaboration of business, industry and education created to enhance the learning of STEM subjects for students in Calhoun, Barry, and Branch counties in Michigan. The BCAMSC provides services directly to secondary students who are talented and motivated to study STEM subjects in greater depth and with more acceleration than may be available in their home high schools. The Center, by offering a rigorous curriculum in accelerated STEM subjects to high school students, is educating the scientific and technical leaders of tomorrow in a nurturing environment focused on the technical and intellectual needs of advanced students.
Position Summary:
The STEM Education Director (SED) reports to the Director of Secondary Education. The SED serves as the educational leader and is responsible for creating and sustaining a positive, safe, and innovative learning environment. The SED supervises the building staff, enrollment, recruitment, and assessment. In addition to a continuous pursuit of educational excellence, the SED is responsible for developing partnerships with area schools and coordinating programs for middle and high school students. Other responsibilities include coordination of high school internships, research opportunities and organizing the annual research symposium.
The SED also will play a critical role in ensuring that the Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center is an integral part in developing coordination between high school and middle school STEM programming. The SED will research, design, and implement middle school programming aligned to the area school districts. The SED also will work to impact closing the student achievement gap by developing a model for the advancement of underserved and economically-disadvantaged students toward STEM education.

Major Responsibilities:
- Manages High School day to day operations.
- Researches STEM education programs and works with BCPS administrators to implement best practices in STEM.
- Reviews and is aware of contemporary research in STEM education to collaborate with other Leaders in STEM research in the development of new program innovations.
- Develops and directs 4th & 5th grade onsite programming.
- Guides the implementation of the curriculum framework, instructional methods and assessments by developing a theory of action which consists of planning, deploying, assessing, adjusting curriculum.
- Monitors course documents.
- Coordinates High School internships.
- Coordinates the research symposium.
- Serves as the parent liaison to promote strong relationships with student families and caregivers to engage them in their child's education and school events.
- Recruits underserved students and economically-disadvantaged students.
- Develops metrics, monitors and improves retention of underserved and economically-disadvantaged students.
- Develops communication strategies and deploys a communication plan.
- Assesses outcomes of programs, reflects and makes adjustments for continuous improvement of processes, systems, methods, and student experience.
- Develops and implements a 9th-12th grade student recruitment strategy, including middle school building visits and family information events for rising 9th grade students.
- Coordinates all admission tests, acceptance and enrollment throughout the school year.

- Demonstrated ability to communicate using effective collaboration and listening skills with a variety of audiences including teaching staff, students, parents, caregivers, corporate leaders in STEM, and community advocates
- Demonstrated ability to write clearly and succinctly in a variety of media (e.g., newsletters, memos, social media)

- Demonstrated ability to develop insightful conclusions and strategic solutions based on the analysis
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of program development and assessment

Qualifications:
- Hold or be able to obtain a valid administrative certificate/license applicable to Michigan by hiring date
- Master's degree or equivalent experience
- Strong background in Secondary Science is preferred.
- Experience creating processes and managing people
- 6+ years professional educational experience
- Experience working with communities of diverse backgrounds (e.g., socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, religion, cultures, and perspectives), and passionate about improving the career opportunities available for economically-disadvantaged students.
