Essential Functions:
Serve as instructional leader for school transformation for the 9-12th grade Alternative and Optional Education Center with the ability to clearly communicate and monitor the implementation of a focused educational reform movement directed at rapidly improving student academic achievement. The Principal possesses the leadership ability to develop and sustain a positive academic culture while holding the school accountable for student achievement. The Principal must develop, implement and lead a comprehensive school improvement plan outlining targeted goals and systems for progress monitoring.
Leadership:
This includes but is not limited to:
Lead AOEC administration team and staff with school transformation objectives Supervise the delivery of curriculum to ensure fidelity to standards Continuously monitor the implementation of instructional norms, targeted academic intervention programs, and common curriculum to ensure full fidelity of implementation in all courses at the high school to support general, diverse learners and ELL students Evaluates the performance of personnel to improve competencies Demand effective, varied instruction, which maximizes student engagement, and learning with rich content, appropriate text, and analytical thinking; Support social-emotional learning for all students through tiered interventions; Collaborate with district Master Scheduler in overseeing the development the high school and middle school master schedule that will provide for the efficient operation of the school and result in a high level of learning for ALL students The Principal is responsible for hiring, supervising, and evaluating School Administrators, teachers and various support staff members assigned to the high school Collaborate with the Department of Student Outreach and administration from both traditional setting campuses for student placement and enrollment. Collaborate with the Department of Student Outreach and WPS Grant Managers for the development and management of the TAOEP Grant. Responsible for program implementation of School Counseling and Post-Secondary supports and services and success execute a plan for increasing dual enrollment Facilitate and develop a strategic plan to execute MTSS standards and expectations to ensure all students are receiving core instruction and/or intervention supports to increase student success. Use needs as sessment data to identify professional development activities for implementation throughout the school year with all populations of high school employees Supervise the implementation of the district and building discipline policies Ensure students' right to due process Submit reports as required regarding probation, parole, and corrections Assist Climate and Culture specialist in the preparation for and oversee expulsion hearings Seek interventions for students with severe or chronic behavioral problems Develop and sustain positive relationships with parents, community partners, School Resource Officer and local law enforcement Build positive relationships and rapport with students and families to support positive behavior and attendance Develop and monitor attendance policies, their enforcements and student interventions related to attendance Develop and monitor tardy policies and their enforcement Consult with and monitor truant officers Monitor teaching staff in the enforcement of attendance and tardy policies Supervise the notification of parents/guardians regarding truancy Maintain attendance reports as required by district and state policy Oversee the maintenance of student attendance records and the excusing of absences Ensure District and Building discipline policies are communicated to parents and students and consult with the Safety Supervisor about the supervision and assignment of safety officers Monitor the use and maintenance of safety equipment, such as door locks, metal detectors and alarms Conduct and evaluate fire and other safety drills Consult with vendors/contractors to schedule work and delivery of equipment and manage the physical plant to provide for the best educational conditions Evaluate work order requests, monitor progress, and arrange for their completion Ensure that proper reports are filed by the custodial supervisor (vandalism, fire extinguishers, facility rental, pool samples, etc.) Assist school and district leaders in facilitating the preparation and administration of the high school's yearly budget including the purchase appropriate instructional resources, texts, and equipment Serve as an instructional leader for the school district at the secondary level and supervising the delivery of curriculum to ensure fidelity to standards Be on call for emergencies after school hours; and Perform other duties as assigned by Area/Associate Superintendent Qualifications: Master's degree, School Administration Certificate (IL Type 75 or equivalent) PERA certified; Personal passion for working in a challenging urban school environment; Demonstrated capacity to effectively lead change in a secondary setting; Proven experience serving as both an administrator and exemplar teacher at the high school level; Explicit evidence of belief in capacity for all students to achieve academically; Administrative Experience, preferably at the Middle School or High School Level - 5 years preferred; Compensation: Salary Structure
