SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the AVP Controller, the Senior Accountant 2 assists in preparation of financial statements, month-end close activities, regulatory filings, and audit-related activities. This position assists in analyzing financial statements, variance analysis and reporting, and preparing recommendations for policy, procedures, and internal controls. Executes financial accounting processes by applying federal, state and industry regulations and standards.

  • Performs Accounting Clerk and Senior Accountant 1 essential duties as needed.
  • Maintains accounting systems, practices, controls, and procedures that conform to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and fulfills the financial objectives of the Credit Union.
  • Monitors Corporate Cash Accounts.
  • Complies and analyzes a variety of complex statistical reports and materials.
  • Maintains the Investment Portfolio.
  • Maintains the Loan Participation Portfolio.
  • Creates and maintains general ledger accounts in data processing system to include parameter management, translation tables, new branches, products, services, and MSO cash accounts.
  • Assists in month-end close and financial statement preparation; prepares reports for the Board package.
  • Assists in preparing audit and examiners requests.
  • Verifies and validates all Core loans & deposits.
  • Maintains records for Wealth Management, posting all income and expense.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements for Wealth Management, LLC.
  • Prepares reports summarizing business and financial activities for external agencies (NCUA and Federal Reserve).
  • Performs specialized calculations for depreciation, investment interest, dividend interest and loan interest.
  • Responds to employees' and members' inquiries and requests and resolves problems and/or complaints.
  • Cross-trains in Accounting Department functions.
  • Regularly attends and participates in in-house training.

QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience

A degree in or certification of specialized training in Accounting or Business is preferred.

A minimum five years of increasingly responsible related experience within a financial institution in an accounting or equivalent department.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

None.

Knowledge

Strong knowledge of accounting practices and principles in the financial industry.

Background in all aspects of Credit Union laws and regulations, department functions, policies and procedures.

Credit Union products, services, programs, and promotions.

MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) required, and other systems and software needed to perform job.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to travel, attend, and participate in meetings, seminars, and conferences held before and after normal business hours that may require unaccompanied long-distance travel and overnight lodging.
