Summary
The Director, Pathology Laboratory is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Baylor College of Medicine Pathology Laboratory at West Bellfort and for providing on-site Clinical and Client Services and Quality Assurance Services to all Baylor Pathology affiliated laboratories. They are responsible for preparing training manuals, new policies and procedures for the daily lab operations. The Director is also responsible for maintaining and managing the Quality Assurance Program for the Pathology Lab, ensuring that Quality Control procedures are updated regularly and followed on a daily basis. They routinely work with HR manager to ensure the lab organization is fully staffed with skilled employees. The Director, Pathology Laboratory supports Baylor's external training programs in which the students from Houston Community College come to the lab for Histology internship. The Director works with Client Services in providing assistance in setting up various services for the new clients. Ensures BCM customers are getting quality services in a timely manner and makes every attempt to address their complaints in a prompt and satisfactory manner. Also responsible for West Bellfort but also other Baylor Pathology affiliated laboratories introducing efficiency and cost effectiveness. Will work with BCM upper management to address myriad of issues relating to lab equipment, operational issues at various labs including successful completion of CAP inspections.

Job Duties
- Oversee and manage operational activities at anatomic pathology labs to ensure quality and timely performance.
- Assist the Histology Lab Supervisor/Manager with managing staff, make hiring decisions, provide coaching, training and mentoring, monitor performance and determines staffing needs.
- Direct the strategic operations of the following sections:
- Digital Pathology, to include defining work responsibilities and prioritization, setting performance development plans and goals, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
- Create and implement plans to ensure smooth operations by coordinating communication between different sections in the Lab.
- Make strategic decisions on matters related to work load, revenue cycle integrity, and quality patient care.
- Provide protocol process review to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Oversee internal and external communications to local/state or federal oversight agencies and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure all labs comply with CAP and CLIA requirements and guidelines.
- Monitor federal, state, and local compliance laws and regulations and disseminates compliance information.
- Develop, lead and evaluate process change based on the progress.
- Ensure proper use of financial resources of the laboratory, including budget administration, performing cost assessments, monitoring financial transactions, and financial reporting.
- Assure that the labs and personnel maintain appropriate clinical, financial, and employment records that comply with record-keeping standards, laws, operational procedures, and comply with HIPAA.
- Oversee and manage operational activities at all anatomic pathology labs to ensure quality and timely performance.
- Support Digital Pathology section Ensure the BCM pathology labs comply with CAP and CLIA requirements and guidelines.
- Ensure regulatory compliance as per local, state and federal guidelines.
- Ensure proper record keeping with regards to work assignments, employee performance, budgeting and patient quality care.
- Provide status briefings and support to the BCM management as required.
- Provide support to and coordinate with pathologists at various lab locations.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
- Five years of relevant experience.
Department Specific Criteria
- Certified Histology Technician and/or Histotechnologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Certification (BOC)
- Previous experience as pathology lab manager or director
- Experience with anatomical pathology
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of the histotechnologist community both locally and nationally
