POSITION SUMMARY:
The Controller is responsible for all financial aspects of hospital activities. Direct responsibility for Accounting Services. Reports to the CAO. Functions as a member of the management group and maintains relationships with all department heads.
Manages/Oversees all facets of financial accounting including cash flow, payroll, accounts payable, general ledger and financial statement preparation. Monitors and reports key findings with respect to all financial data including financial statistics, payer trends, denials/RTP's, collection issues, etc. Acts as a super-user for the hospital's accounting and health information systems. Manages training needs of the accounting staff. Establishes and maintains strong working relationships with members of the medical staff and their offices. Performs all other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have 2-5 years manager level experience in a health care accounting/business office environment required. Must have a strong understanding of the financial operations of a hospital, the intricacies of out-of-network insurance, and UB billing. Must have strong computer skills and be proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office applications. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have the ability to prioritize, to be decisive, tactful, and flexible. Must have strong problem solving and analytical skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required: Bachelor's degree in business or accounting.
Preferred: Experience with QuickBooks, Medhost & Paycor/Paycom
Prior healthcare experience a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Reviews general ledgers postings and financial statements.
- Reviews monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet general ledger accounts.
- Analyzes, researches, and prepares correcting accounting entries as needed.
- Manages cash flow and accounts payable disbursements.
- Reviews audits of patient charges with respect to chargeable supplies and verifies accuracy of the same.
- Conducts the final review of bi-weekly time entry and related payroll calculations. Communicates with respective departmental managers and staff as issues arise. Works with managers to ensure understanding of payroll policies and procedures. Audits payroll transactions for unusual or suspect transactions.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures in the areas of payroll processing, accounts payable, and the drafting of payment checks or vouchers.
- Develops recommendations to streamline processes and/or procedures to increase operational efficiency. Interprets and communicates to Hospital employees of all levels Hospital purchasing policies and guidelines, approval processes and contractual information in oral and written form.
- Contributes to the department as a team player.
- Acts as leader and trainer of less senior clerks. Notifies upper-level management of unusual and/or questionable practices and/or transactions.
- Provides administrative support to CFO in the form of usage reports, budgets, supply utilization analysis and capital expenditure management.
- Develops reporting and control measures.
- Maintains confidentiality as set forth by the policies and procedures of The Hospital at Westlake Medical Center.
- Maintains a positive and encouraging attitude with staff while holding them accountable
- Ensures effective cross-training of departmental staff
- Perform all other assigned duties not specifically delineated above as requested in a timely, professional, courteous and efficient manner.
