The Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering will lead the technical aspects of equipment implementation and the enhancement of the manufacturing processes and machinery for Ni-Zn battery production. This role requires a trio of skillsets: battery process knowledge, controls engineering, and database design and manipulation. The Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering will strive to enhance machinery with new technology prior to launch but ensure existing battery manufacturing techniques do not vary from the original process. As the processes stabilize, this role will drive continuous improvement initiatives carefully seeking efficiencies in the manufacturing process. This position will be worked onsite at ZincFive headquarters in Tualatin, Oregon and will report to the Director of US Battery Manufacturing.

Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Job Duties:

Leadership and Management:

o Lead and mentor a team of engineers and technicians in the development and optimization of manufacturing processes for battery production

o Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the manufacturing team

Equipment and MES Development

o Help define control scheme for pilot line process

o Help define MES (Manufacturing Execution System) brand and scope for operations in Tualatin and future operations

o Ensure equipment can supply critical data to MES

o Assist with layout drawings and workflow

Process Development and Optimization:

o Evaluate and improve existing battery manufacturing processes to enhance productivity, quality, and cost-effectiveness

o Monitor and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to maximize equipment performance and minimize downtime

o Conduct feasibility studies and ROI analysis for new manufacturing technologies and equipment tailored to battery manufacturing

o Identify and later integrate future-proof OT/IT technologies such as automation, robotics, and data analytics into manufacturing processes

Project Management:

o Manage multiple CAPEX projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion within budget and scope

o Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, quality assurance, supply chain, and production, to ensure seamless integration of new processes

Technical Expertise:

o Stay abreast of the latest development in battery manufacturing technologies and industry trends o Implement and continuously enhance PLC, SCADA, and MES systems to optimize the monitoring and control of manufacturing processes

o Utilize data analytics to drive process improvements and optimize production efficiency

o Provide technical guidance and support to the team and other departments as needed

Resource Management:

o Oversee the procurement and maintenance of manufacturing equipment. Manage the manufacturing budget, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost control

Safety and Environmental Compliance:

o Promote a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to safety policies and procedures, especially regarding the handling of hazardous materials used in battery production

o Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives

Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in battery manufacturing or a related field
Proven track record of implementing advanced manufacturing technologies and process improvements in battery production
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies
Hands-on experience with CAD software, automation systems, SCADA, PLCs, and data analytics tools; Multiple system experience helpful
Proficiency in SQL for database management and data analysis
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment

Preferred Skills:
Master's degree preferred
Strong technical skills with a variety of control and MES platforms
Ability to communicate in Chinese by reading, writing and speaking particularly helpful

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work involves sitting, walking, and lifting up to 35 pounds
Requires PPE to be worn on the face and body as needed
Domestic and international travel by car, airplane, bus & train
Requires close visual acuity, the ability to distinguish color, and the ability to hear
Warehouse, lab and office environments
