PositionOverview:Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees. The Clinical Documentation Manager uses clinical, ICD coding, government and non-government regulations and experience to perform daily operational management of the CDI program and CDI Staff.

Education:Graduate of an NLN school of nursing or other clinically accredited program.
License:Current Mississippi RN license, ARNP, MD; if applicable.
Certifications:Clinical documentation Improvement Certification (CCDS or CDIP)and/or Certified Coding Certification (CCS or CIC) preferred.
Experience:Minimum Experience:
-Five (5) year's clinical experience in an acute care setting and at least two years of leadership experience.
Preferred Experience:Pathology/physiology of disease processes.
ICD-10 CM and PCS, APR and MS-DRG's, Coding Clinic and Official Guidelines for coding and reporting.
Medicare and Medicaid rules and regulations.
AHIMA and ACDIS CDI regulations, standards and code of ethics.
Quality Metrics: PSI, Mortality Index, and HAC
Statistical analysis and reporting practices pertaining to quality improvement and program evaluation.
Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Power-point
Electronic health record requirements for documentation and coding software. (EPIC and 3M Encoder preferred).
Reports to:Director of Revenue Integrity
Supervises:Clinical Documentation Specialists (RN)
Physical Demands:Work is moderatelyactive: involves frequent requirements to move about the office, move about thefacility, and to travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. Work involves exerting a negligible amount offorce frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects,including the human body. Employee isresponsible for safely moving, lifting and handling all supplies, equipment andpatients, with assistance, up to 350 pounds. Expected to use safe liftingpractices in all areas of job performance and employees are responsible torequest help whenever needed, regardless of the weight, using availableassistance, i.e. lifting devices or additional staff.
Work involves usingmany physical motions in performing daily work activities; subject to exposureof body fluids, sputum and tissues, which may carry the hazard of infectiousdisease. Work involves using repetitivemotions: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and or fingers whileoperating standard office equipment such as computer keyboard.
Work involves beingable to perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels with or withoutcorrection; the ability to make fine discriminations in sound. Work requiresclose visual and acuity and the ability to adjust the eye to bring an objectinto sharp focus, i.e. shift gaze from viewing a computer monitor toforms/printed material that are closer to compare data at close vision.
Must be able to beactive for extended periods without experiencing undue fatigue. Must be able to work schedules assigned withthe understanding that changes may occur according to the needs of the hospitalfor off days, shifts or weekends.
Mental Demands:
Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities. Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone. Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills. Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels. Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required. Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations
Special Demands:Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette. Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
