Job purpose

The Continuous Improvement Engineer is responsible for improving the overall efficiency of the operations in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Continuous Improvement Engineer will lead efforts to improve safety, quality, productivity, and environmental performance while reducing losses and improving profitability.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Work cross-functionally with other groups to lead/support continuous improvement efforts across multiple internal departments and processes.
  • Improve process/equipment reliability and uptime through improved maintenance performance, downtime reduction, and key performance indicator (KPI) tracking.
  • Lead/Support the selection of new machines, tooling, processes, and automation required to meet safety, quality, productivity, and environmental objectives.
  • Lead, Apply, and Instruct Kanban, 5S, and Kaizen efforts within and across the organization to support rapid improvement.
  • Conduct strategic investigations to support process development, improvement of process capability, or reduction of production/operation cost.
  • Support Quality, Product Engineering, Product Management, and Sales for new product development or existing product improvements in quality, performance, and cost.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of manufacturing work instructions associated with the products including processing, assembly, inspection, and testing.
  • Document current workflow and identify opportunities for improvement through statistical analysis and review of key performance indicators (Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery)
  • Ensure repeatable product quality and on-time delivery to our customer base.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned by business needs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a 24/7 continuous process manufacturing environment required.
  • Demonstrated record of project management, including capital projects in excess of $100k required.
  • Demonstrated experience/training in Kanban, 5S, Kaizen or equivalent lean manufacturing tools.
  • Experience in Film or Paper Web Coating and Converting, Extrusion Coating, Paper/Pulp Converting, or similar high-speed, rotating equipment environment preferred.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and NEC preferred.
  • Must be capable of working flexible hours to accommodate 24/7 manufacturing operation, including weekends, and on-call requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities and this position reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to stand/walk for 8 hours
  • Must be able to push/pull/ lift at least 45 lbs. individually and 50 lbs. with the help of a team member

  • Ability to wear required PPE (including safety glasses, gloves (nitrile, canvas, etc.), hearing protection, ANSI-approved footwear, and others as required.) in any manufacturing area.

The hiring range for this position is $85,000 to $95,000 per year. This range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications.
