Culver Franchising System, LLC is looking for a Director of Quality Assurance to lead the development, implementation and successful advancement of effective quality assurance strategies and practices on all food and beverage products and materials, especially in the area of manufacturing and distribution established food-safety standards, utilized to support the business and advance the Culver's brand. This position is responsible for providing the highest level of quality assurance services and approaches for Culver Franchising System, LLC by working with franchisees, suppliers, and internal team members.
Key Functions include:
Own Food Safety Standards - set and communicate food safety standards with Culver's suppliers
o Own the relationship with all suppliers on matters of communicated quality expectation and topics
o Cultivate relationships with designated suppliers seeking understanding and alignment in the desired quality outcomes and requirements for the Culver's brand.
o Communicate and reinforce quality assurance and food safety standards across a wide range of food categories from raw material sourcing, conversion and all handling/transportation stages with both external and internal audiences
o Where specifically necessary, connect with local and state legislative requirements concerning QA practices and food safety changes to reinforce with suppliers and internal stakeholders
o Develop and implement a matrix/scorecard system to ensure the highest food safety standard with our supplier partners
Ensure Compliance to the Culver's Standards - represent the brand and reinforce quality standards through supplier visits or audits
o Lead team to conduct supplier QA facility visits to monitor and audit safety issues; be diligent and aware of escalating safety concerns as appropriate
o Collaborate with supply chain and cross-functional leaders to ensure Culver's brand standard compliance while taking decisive ownership to quickly escalate or resolve issues
o Explore the need and create the approach and process for partnerships with third-party auditors; oversee and manage those relationships
o Utilize thorough learned knowledge of supplier business process and independent expertise around materials to guide manufacturers and distributors to align to Culver's brand standards
Conduct Sensory Evaluation of Core and New Products - uphold quality standards and brand image
o Uphold the highest quality standards and brand image
o Work with the Menu Development Team collaborating and challenging where needed to ensure quality standards are met
o Participate in creating and then oversee contingency supply plans, ensuring all necessary steps are taken by suppliers
Gatekeeper and Provide Final Decision on Product Recalls - determine risk severity and actions to be taken across the Culver's system and brand
o Initiate and lead through risk assessment and collaborate to determine risk severity
o Lead/Manage the recall/withdrawal process by engaging all key stakeholder to protect the brand
o Continuously measure, improve, and evolve the Culver's Product Recall process and execution
o Collaborate with risk management team on any end-to-end supply issues and/or restaurant operational-food safety issues
o Provide brand protection and assess risks to the brand; collaborate with risk management team where appropriate
o Investigate and manage emerging issues from suppliers and work with public relations to address them proactively with franchisees, media and other stakeholders
Lead and Refine the Execution of the Food Service Incident Management (FSIM) Quality Reporting Tool and Process
o Leverage data from FSIM tool to inform the category team of quality issues
o Share reporting outcomes with suppliers on quality performance
Lead and Develop Team Members - employ successful communication and coaching to enable individual and team success and engagement
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Supply Chain/Logistics or related field, Master's Degree preferred
10+ years related experience, including implementing and maintaining a Quality Management System (QMS) and audit experience using USDA, BRC and FDA standards and regulations
5+ years' experience supervising others
Able to travel 30-40% of the time
Additional Info:
Starting Pay Range: $140,000-$160,000 commensurate with experience.
Classification: Exempt/Salaried, full-time position.
