Job Description

The Heersink School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for an open-rank, non-tenure or tenure track faculty appointment in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery. The successful candidate will be a fellowship-trained colon and rectal surgeon with an interest in academic surgery. The successful candidate will be expected to meet clinical, research, and teaching needs in the Department of Surgery with a practice focused on colorectal diseases including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, anorectal disorders, endoscopy, and other colorectal pathologies. Our faculty also supports the general surgery practice of several rural hospitals in Alabama. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the support of these practices. Our faculty members are nationally-recognized experts in the field of gastrointestinal surgery including colorectal surgery. We are home to one of the highest-volume academic robotics programs in the country and our ACGME-accredited colorectal surgery fellowship program is only one in Alabama. The Division is significantly involved in both basic and clinical research and faculty have track-records of independent funding including from the NIH. In addition to our focus on patient care, we provide an environment that supports the education of health professionals and encourages advanced research to further medical science.

Required Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will hold an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D., and will be an outstanding leader and highly skilled, widely recognized in the field with a strong track record. Candidate should have substantial professional work experience in one or more areas of research, teaching and/or service.
