Position Summary:
The Assistant Director serves as part of the district leadership team responsible for the oversight of special education and supplementary services for children and youth ages birth to 21. They are to provide leadership and supervision to ensure programs and services meet state and federal guidelines and conform to high standards of professional practice. Programs include: Early Childhood Special Education, Federal Setting 1 and 2 classrooms, Federal Setting 3 programming, Health Services, School Social Work, School Psychology and other related services, compliance with Section 504 and IDEA, nonpublic and homebound/based services. This requires a full-time schedule during the school year and is equivalent to 1.0 FTE working 52 weeks per year.

Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Hires, supervises, and evaluates special education teachers and related services.
- Ensures compliance with due process laws, practices, and procedures through technical assistance to staff, parents, and others
- Administrative partner in the oversight of special education programming.
- Supervises, directs, and coordinates elementary center-based programs (setting 3) to ensure high quality teaching and learning strategies and aligment to Minnesota standards.
- Consults with building administration to supervise and support the effective implementation of special education due process, including identification, evaluation, program implementation and specifically designed instruction.
- Demonstrates a collaborative leadership style involving district administrators in the planning and implementation of programs.
- Directs the collection of data and prepares administrative reports to meet Federal, State, and district requirements, including MDE monitoring cycle.
- Co-directs the activities of the Special Education Advisory Committee in the communication and planning of special education services.
- Collaborates in the development and monitoring of an annual budget and staffing.
- Conducts TDE school-based evaluations in coordination with building administrators.
- Participates in meetings of district administrators such as the Leadership Team, Administrative Cabinet, Principals, and other meetings as needed to carry out the duties of the position.

Qualifications:
Required
- Valid Special Education Directors licensure from the Minnesota Department of Education is required.
- Minimum 3 years previous experience as a special education district level administrator required.
- Valid K-12 Principals licensure from the Minnesota Department of Education is preferred.
Compensation:
