Mineralogist is responsible for managing mineralogy projects, including client liaison, project supervision, data analysis and reporting, as well as working as part of the Mineralogy team to grow the business, mentor colleagues and support data quality and control.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Manage mineralogy projects from both internal and external clients, under supervision of the Mineralogy Manager;
  • Complete all required data processing (i.e., mineral identification, calculations, data entry and review, archival, etc.) as required or as directed by the Mineralogy Manager;
  • Prepare and write technical reports as required or as directed by the Mineralogy Manager;
  • Equipment operation following documented methods and/or procedures, as required;
  • Perform instrument/equipment calibration, maintenance as required;
  • Deliver accurate results to internal and external clients in a timely manner;
  • Technical decision making for non-routine, complex analyses;
  • Support data quality and control; through sample preparation, assays and instrument measurements, etc.
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Develops proposals, invoicing of clients from direction provided by Mineralogy Manager
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Mineralogy Manager


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Excellent organizational ability, time management skills with an attention to detail;
  • Excellent computer skills appropriate for using iDiscover/MAPS, and/or other specialized application software;
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office Software; especially Excel and Word
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Experience/working knowledge of geological/mineralogy laboratory techniques including optical microscopy and QEMSCAN/MLA/TIMA etc.
  • Ability or knowledge of other mineralogical techniques, such as XRD, SEM-EDS, Electron Microprobe, LA-ICPMS results to support Automated mineralogy data, metallurgical testing results, or other applications as required;
  • Previous experience in a consulting function with report writing, client liaison, and project management skills would be an advantage;
  • Commitment to proper data management procedures;
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team;
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and manage/coordinate multiple projects independently;
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgement to ensure projects are completed in a timely manner;
  • Conscientious attention to following correct procedures and maximizing quality of work.


Required Qualifications:
  • B.Sc. in Geology, Geological Engineering, or related field;
  • Experience in the operation of a scanning electron microscope (as listed above) or similar model is an asset;
  • Minimum of 4-10 years' experience in mineralogy/automated mineralogy, applying the data to metallurgical testing and other sectors


Physical Demands:
  • Ability to sit for up to 8 hours per day;
  • Ability to view data on a computer screen and interpret results;
  • Ability to stand and reach over analytical equipment on a regular basis;
  • Manual dexterity is required.

Payrate: $35 to $50 per hour DOE
