About the Position: This senior-level position works in direct partnership with the Executive Director and staff to achieve financial and strategic goals that sustain the organization into the future. A successful Fund Development Director will have the ability to work both independently, juggle multiple projects, and support a collaborative staff culture. The ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly attain a strong understanding of the financial and community needs of the organization and use that knowledge to develop fundraising, stewardship and communications strategies. Organizationally, Proud Ground is experiencing rapid growth. A successful candidate will be able to lead development activities that expand our capacity and reach. This position will be assisted by internal staff and outside, fractional support.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising/Grants/Contracts & Donor Engagement
  • Develop a fund development plan, with defined strategies to achieve fundraising goals.
  • Lead management of major donor, foundation and sponsorship relationships, to include prospecting, cultivation, onboarding and stewardship.
  • Ensure that all grants, reports and required evaluations for funders are completed within their respective deadlines.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the donor database, ensuring the accurate reporting of donor information and trends.
  • Produce an annual fundraising event, with smaller donor-centric events, as needed.
  • Produce annual appeals, donor communications, and other fundraising campaigns, as needed.
  • Provide support to the ED in staffing the Board of Directors to ensure engagement with fundraising.
  • Assist Associate Director with jurisdictional subsidy applications.

Communications

  • Develop and implement an organization-wide communications plan that is culturally responsive.
  • Oversee design and contract management of print and digital materials, including but not limited to an Annual Report, Program Brochures, Impact Reports, and Newsletters.
  • Collaboratively author organizational publications, including advocacy letters, presentations, and reports.
  • Oversee on-line communications including website, social media, peer-to-peer, etc.
  • Coordinate with partners and press to further Proud Ground's external features.

Operational Engagement

  • Ensure internal systems for tracking donations and sponsorships are in place and functioning effectively.
  • Ensuring programmatic results are in alignment with grant requirements.
  • Work with the Leadership Team to meet fundraising and strategic plan goals.
  • Contribute to the development of strategies, budgets, and other operational components.
  • Support and advance organization strategic equity, diversity and inclusion process.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Five+ years experience managing core fundraising activities in a nonprofit or government setting. This could include a combination of fundraising, communications or strategy work with direct donor development, events and appeals, and/or database management.
  • Demonstrated success in securing public sector or private foundation grants from diverse sources.
  • Ability to strategically match organizational needs with appropriate philanthropic, government, and/or earned revenue opportunities.
  • Self-motivated and takes initiative, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and with flexibility.
  • Aptitude for managing complex grant agreements and government contracts, including budgeting and reporting.
  • Outstanding writer with the ability to translate complex ideas and programs into clear and compelling narratives.
  • Good customer service and communication skills; ability to comfortably interact with donors, Board members, businesses, sponsors, volunteers, and other constituents in person, by phone, and in writing.
  • Team player able to contribute creative ideas and practical knowledge to planning processes.
  • Highly organized, with serious attention to detail and adherence to deadlines. Able to multi-task with efficiency.
