Overview: Curriculum and Instruction Leaders are highly skilled in facilitating student-centered, content-specific instruction and coaching teachers and teacher teams to plan for and implement the district's curriculum. This position requires a teacher who is a continual learner and has knowledge of and demonstrated success in teaching as well as in facilitating job-embedded professional learning for teachers. Curriculum and Instruction Leaders are self-starters who are the primary educational leaders for their subject areas. Teachers need to have the requisite leadership skills in order to be considered for the position.

Key Responsibilities:
- Create an articulated coaching schedule, in collaboration with school leaders.
- Provide job-embedded professional development and coaching to support the implementation of the district-assigned curriculum, resulting in coherent and standards-aligned instruction.
- Play an active role on the school's Instructional Leadership Team to support the goals and objectives outlined in the School Improvement Plan.
- Support teachers and teacher teams to provide access to the core curriculum for a diverse array of learners, including but not limited to English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities.
- Support teachers and teacher teams by looking at student data/work to identify student needs in order to adjust instructional practices and develop targeted supports for students.
- Apply knowledge of adult learning principles to inform targeted support for teachers and teacher teams through coaching, modeling, facilitating inter-visitations, etc.
- Build strong relationships with teachers and paraprofessionals.
- Attend regular professional learning workshops with the district team.
- Collaborate with the Interventionists (if applicable) to ensure that tiered interventions are aligned and designed to maximize student achievement.
- Plan for and deliver professional development to staff.
- Facilitate and participate in the development and revision of the district curriculum.
- Support the district to research and select new curriculum resources and materials as requested by the Assistant Superintendent.
- Support teachers and principals in preparing budget documents related to instructional supplies
- Assist the principal, counselors, and teachers who are responsible for the placement and scheduling of students.
- Develop and make presentations to the Board of Education and parent groups as requested by the Assistant Superintendent.
- Other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent related to the overall duties and responsibilities of the position.
Qualifications:
- Valid Connecticut certification (015) or equivalent
- A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate a collegial approach
- Experience in curriculum development and implementation, in the alignment of instruction with testing, and in curriculum-related teacher training
- Ability to transfer current research findings into practice
- Demonstrated leadership in improving aspects of instruction and assessment 6-12
- Demonstrated ability to identify effective instructional and technological resources to support curriculum requirements
- Experience in working effectively with teachers, administrators, parents, and community groups
- Currently active in the subject area by means of professional reading, recent coursework, leading workshops, and similar activities
- Excellent human relations skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong presentation, facilitation, and organization skills
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Assistant Superintendent may find appropriate
