General Statement of Responsibilities
Provide instruction, assessment, and direct supervision of phlebotomy students in a classroom and laboratory setting. Maintain college standards regarding professionalism, record keeping, and instruction to train students in the skill of phlebotomy.
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision of the dean of workforce development and in coordination with Community and Workforce training service coordinators and faculty.
Examples of Duties - Essential Functions
1. Provides direct instruction, supervision, and evaluation of students as they perform in lab or deliver patient care in classroom and laboratory activities. Activities to be supervised and at times modeled in the instruction of venipuncture procedures.
2. Provides a positive role model for the students, especially in the areas of caring, advocacy, respect for self and others, collegiality, ethical behavior, ethical reasoning, and strong work ethic (including responsibility, dependability, and accountability) and provides constructive feedback to students.
3. Notifies students who may be having problems in clinical performance of their deficits or problems in a timely and confidential manner and works with students to identify ways to improve their performance.
4. Coordinates and schedules work-based learning with clinical partners.
5. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the learning objectives, curriculum, policies and standards of the program.
6. Utilizes steps of clinical laboratory assistant process to facilitate student achievements of objectives.
7. Effectively communicates with internal and external stakeholders to deliver quality curriculum, support student's growth and development, maintain industry standards, and model excellent partnership efforts.
Screening Criteria
Education: For Phlebotomy courses PBT (ASCP) or CPT (NHA) current certification required and previous teaching experience preferred. Current CPR/First AID card, HIPPA and OSHA standards training required.
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
Licenses and Certificates: For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a clinical setting performing venipuncture.
Ability to: Ability to safely demonstrate, model, and instruct students using proper procedures and protocol. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with respect to diverse students, staff, agencies and community members; ability and willingness to work with non-traditional adult learners as well as teens; demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties, including the use of new technologies such as online instruction; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth.

The position requires some mobility including the ability to move materials less than 5 pounds daily, 5-25 pounds occasionally, and 25-60 pounds rarely.
