Job Description
General Purpose:
The Regional Manager, Community Engagement serves as a vital liaison between the regional and hospital presidents and the communities they serve, developing strong relationships with officials, nonprofits, community organizations, community leaders, and related members to create and implement community outreach initiatives that strengthen the health system brand and helps to grow the business.
As a leader of the regional marketing and communications team, the individual will develop and execute strategic outreach plans for both the greater Lansing and Grand Rapids markets, working collaboratively with PR, marketing and internal communications teams.
This individual will work closely with the regional president, Lansing, Grand Rapids and community hospital presidents to identify key grassroots partnerships and foster relationships that elevate the U-M Health brand, while serving the needs of the community.
The Regional Community Engagement manager will also serve as "account executive" over the community hospitals, gathering and analyzing data to better understand patient needs and developing strategies to support awareness, preference and growth through teaming with marketing and PR.
The is a vital position that requires a passionate, dedicated individual capable of fostering robust partnerships through strategic communications and community relations. This role is both strategic and operational, providing leadership that ensures the hospitals serve the community effectively while also securing its position as a healthcare provider of choice.

Work Experience
Minimum of 7 years of experience in marketing and/or communications with a focus on healthcare or hospital marketing preferred.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or related field.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships and effectively influence and motivate others. Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with experience in public relations and media management. Strong project management capabilities, with the skill to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines. Knowledge of healthcare industry trends, regulatory environments, and the competitive landscape. Proficiency in digital marketing, including social media, email campaigns, and analytics tools. Detail-oriented and data-driven, with a commitment to accuracy and quality in all initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with hospital presidents, service line leaders, and PR and marketing managers to align brand and growth strategies with community hospital business goals.
- Understand and respond to the PR and marketing needs of community hospitals by developing strategic communication plans working closely with colleagues throughout the department.
- Create compelling content and other PR strategies across various platforms to highlight community hospital programs, patient stories, and healthcare advancements.
- Develop comprehensive community engagement plans for region based on both community need and organizational priorities of UM Health-Sparrow and UM Health-Grand Rapids.
- Work with the hospital leadership to strategically represent the hospitals during community events and public engagements to strengthen brand visibility and reputation.
- Assist in the planning and execution of hospital events, launches, and other special projects that contribute to service line success and community engagement.
- Utilize data analytics and market research to inform strategy and measure the effectiveness of various communication channels and strategies.
- Help to establish and maintain the hospital's reputation as a caring and competent provider of health services. By effectively communicating with the public and responding to their concerns, the manager can foster trust and loyalty, which are essential for attracting and retaining patients.
- Counsel presidents regarding strategic relationships with local businesses, schools, nonprofit organizations, and government entities will be key to developing partnerships that can support the hospital's growth. These connections can provide additional resources and referral sources.
- Maintain open channels of communication with the community, in order to gather feedback on how the hospital's services are perceived, which can inform improvements in patient care and services offered.
- Inform the hospital's leadership about community needs and concerns, contributing to strategic planning and ensuring that the hospital's growth aligns with community expectations.
- Ensure brand consistency and adherence to hospital guidelines and standards across all marketing and communication materials.
