What will you be doing?

ANBL is seeking a Risk and Compliance Specialist to join our Finance team. As part of our Shared services, this role will be working with both ANBL and CannabisNB. The Risk and Compliance Specialist is responsible for the leadership, governance, and management of the organizational enterprise risk management program, liaising with the outsourced internal auditors and working with the business to address audit findings and recommendations, and management of the organization's insurance program. This includes timely delivery of complete, accurate and reliable audit and risk guidance, recommendations, and reports in digestible and comprehensible formats. The role is responsible for adherence to all applicable legislative and regulatory requirements as well as internal standards and policies. The role is also responsible to ensure continued systems and process optimization, and demonstrated value delivered to the business.

Key position Responsibilities:
  • Enterprise Risk Management- Ensure the complete, accurate and timely provision of the enterprise risk register and associated reporting through proactive identification of new and emerging risks, assessment of identified risks and mitigation impacts in conjunction with business owners, and respectful challenging of assumptions and risk assessments. Perform verification of risk mitigation tactics. Proactively provide consultative services on risk management and control strategies, including organizational risk culture and best practice, to support operational and executive management and enable effective decision-making and achievement of short- and long-term goals, though comprehensive and appropriate risk mitigation tactics. Support strategic planning processes to ensure risks associated with strategies are identified and aligned with organizational approach.
  • Audit Management- Liaise with management and the outsourced internal audit team to support the development and execution of the annual audit plan and longer-term audit strategies and support operational and executive management on the interpretation and implementation of associated findings. Perform verification of controls and remediation efforts. Compile, assess, and report on all audit findings, including those from the internal and external auditors, and the Auditor General.
  • Insurance Program Management- Collaborate with management and insurance brokers to assess business risk and mitigate exposure through the acquisition of appropriate insurance policies. Lead the annual insurance premium renewal process including required information gathering and approvals. Facilitate claims processing and eligibility assessments and develop and maintain stakeholder reporting.
  • Risk Governance and Control Assurance - Cultivate business partnerships to define risk and control frameworks and methodologies that support and drive business growth while promoting fiscal responsibility and ensuring compliance with established Board of Directors and governance requirements.
  • Stakeholder and Management Report Delivery - Lead the development and on-going evolution of stakeholder and management reports to deliver relevant information and insight into operational factors driving business risk and control weaknesses; work closely with operational managers to understand business processes and identify appropriate risk mitigation tactics.
  • Systems and Process Optimization - Develop a strategy and action plan to optimize the effectiveness of audit and risk processes through the efficient use of systems and tools; manage, on an on-going basis, continual process improvements to minimize process waste while maximizing the value delivered to customers.


What you need to be successful:
  • CPA designation or equivalent, Certified Internal Auditor qualification, or professional certification in risk management
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a related risk management or auditing role
  • Experience with enterprise risk management
  • Strong analytical skills; high attention to detail
  • Process improvement driven
  • Well-developed writing skills and able to generate high-quality deliverables in clear terms
  • Able to translate strategic direction into tactical operational plans
  • Highly effective at communicating, building relationships, challenging assumptions, and influencing others
  • Creative problem solver with strong critical thinking and research skills
  • Able to apply conceptual frameworks to new and unique situations
  • Effective time management, organization, and prioritization capabilities
  • Confidentiality and discretion required


It would be fantastic if you also had
  • Assurance experience with an audit firm or internal audit team


Language competencies
  • Bilingualism in both official languages is an asset, but not required


Work location:
  • The successful candidate will have the option to work onsite at ANBL's Retail Operations Centre (ROC) in Fredericton, New Brunswick, or work on a hybrid basis dividing their time between home and ROC.
