Position Summary
This high-level position is responsible for supervising and managing the day-to-day operations of the Dignitary Protection Unit (DPU). The DPU Lieutenant is responsible for the implementation of all DPU operations and will assume responsibility for the development, training, and recommendation of daily operation plans and will report directly to the DPU Commander.
This position will develop and oversee schedules, policy and procedures, and standard operation procedures for providing transportation and security for the Governor, First Family, Lieutenant Governor, private residence, and other dignitaries assigned by the Office of the Governor. The nature of this work is highly confidential, and the Lieutenant will ensure that the DPU does everything in its power to protect confidential information. This position is responsible for providing direction to all DPU Sergeants and state wide first-line supervisors to ensure that the DPU is effectively and efficiently accomplishing the mission.
This position will also plan, administer, and direct protective details for high-ranking state officials, visiting dignitaries such as Governors, cabinet officials, members of visiting trade delegations, religious figures and other officials who may be controversial. These protective details are managed throughout the entire state of Wisconsin and may be conducted outside the confines of Wisconsin or the United States. Duties of this position may entail long hours and extended periods of travel, including overseas travel. The Lieutenant can expect to work irregular schedules that require duty on weekends and holidays to accomplish the mission.
Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range (81-03) with a pay rate of $56.29 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

- Must be a current sworn Law Enforcement Officer in the State of Wisconsin (or eligible for immediate re-certification).
- Must have graduated from the Wisconsin State Patrol Academy and are not currently serving a probation as a State Patrol Trooper or Inspector.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience directing law enforcement personnel.
