Established in 1998 at Indiana University, the GlobalNOC's mission is to advance the future of research, education, and the public interest through the support and evolution of networks. With our staff of 120 plus, we provide comprehensive contracted network management services to over 20 large-scale networks. As part of Indiana University, we operate as a non-profit; we focus on developing great technical staff, and providing excellent service to our clients.

GlobalNOC network engineers have an exciting role designing, deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting networks for clients across the nation and their connections around the globe. Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Provides operational support in designing, implementing, and maintaining networking systems and services, appropriate and necessary for the delivery of information and data across a high-performance networking infrastructure environment.
  • Implements network software and hardware systems; troubleshoots state of the art network hardware; provides assistance to users of the network and participates in performance monitoring and tuning activities.
  • Tracks new products, and coordinates, recommends, and performs product hardware upgrades.
  • Conducts technology research and development and provides standardization recommendation.
  • Responsible for documentation and upgrading of end-user support.
General Responsibilities
  • Applies comprehensive and advanced knowledge to establish and standardize procedures for the design, evaluation, development, and deployment of network system software and hardware technology.
  • Identifies and resolves increasingly complex problems, issues, and assignments in providing network operational support.
  • Performs systems studies which include feasibility, conceptual design, cost/benefit analysis, and implementation planning to support the growth and expansion of IU-managed networks; leads the improvement of network performance and reliability.
  • Leads network implementation and upgrade plans and schedules; provides detailed explanations for purchasing, installing, and housing new and upgraded network systems and components, and follows through to insure that systems are successfully implemented.
  • Often leads project teams in network system design sessions working with clients to ensure achievement of goals; evaluates service requests, estimates resources, and analyzes design and development solutions.
  • Works closely with customers, partners, and vendors to ensure the timely design and delivery of network systems and services to meet the customer's needs.
  • Mentors junior staff.

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Computer Science or a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 5 years of network engineering or related experience.
Preferred
  • 5 years of experience in the administration and engineering of complex network environments and various architectures, including work in Layers 1 through 3.
  • Experience with large scale, high level architecture design for complex systems.
  • Experience with optical network design.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
