Introduction

Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center (SRSTC) within the Department of Health Services (DHS) is recruiting to fill a full-time Building and Grounds Superintendent position in Mauston, WI.

SRSTC opened in 2001 and provides care and treatment for several different patient populations. The center houses Wisconsin's Sexually Violent Persons Program, provides care and treatment for persons found not guilty by reasons of mental disease or mental defect, and provides court ordered treatment, testing, and education to patients found not competent to stand trial. SRSTC is a 500-bed treatment facility and is part of the Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS). Watch this video to learn more about the work of DCTS .

Position Summary

As SRSTC's Building and Grounds Superintendent, you will be responsible for planning, directing, and supervising maintenance and project operations at the facility. Responsibilities include:
  • Providing consultation and technical expertise in the planning, design, construction, remodeling, and maintenance of the facility.
  • Overseeing the upkeep of the grounds and the functions of the energy plant operations and accompanying utilities.
  • Functioning as the operations leader for the institution and as a key member of the respective management teams.

Salary Information

The starting salary is between $39.00 - $44.33 per hour (approximately $81,100-$92,200 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. The pay schedule/range is 81/03.

A 12-month probationary period is required. Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

Job Details

  • All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by SRSTC or medical personnel approved by the facility after to their start date.
  • All applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
  • DHS does not sponsor work visas for these positions, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all the following:
  • Experience in a leadership or supervisory role (e.g., training, assigning and reviewing work, interviewing applicants, providing performance feedback, etc.)
  • Experience planning or overseeing buildings and grounds operations.
  • Experience managing or leading a preventative maintenance program.
Well-qualified applicants will also one or more of the following:
  • Experience managing construction projects (e.g., developing project plans, providing consultation and recommendations, managing multiple/conflicting priorities with varying deadlines, monitoring budget, etc.)
  • Experience managing or overseeing complex building systems such as heating, cooling and refrigeration systems, electrical systems, institution security systems, etc.
  • Experience interpreting and applying state and federal codes and standards.
  • Experience or training in risk management (e.g., monitoring safety and compliance, participating in accident or injury investigations, implementing corrective actions, etc.).
