The Design Manager will help manage the design of mixed-use and multi-residential construction projects, and land development construction projects throughout Canada. Candidates must be an independent self-starter with exceptional communication and reporting skills, and have a solid understanding of project management, interior design and mulit-unit residential design.

What you will do:
Manage the design of Killam's development projects acting as Killam's representative;
Consult with Killam's Senior Executives to seek approval of concept and completed designs;
Assist in procuring design teams including the preparation of Requests for Proposals and reviewing and scoring submitted Proposals;
Chair and minute both internal and external design meetings;
Seek energy efficient design solutions, including reviewing and commenting on energy modelling;
Revise and maintain Killam's Owner Project Requirements while seeking quality and consistency;
Consult with Killam's Operations and Property Management teams to understand their requirements on a project-by-project basis;
Review design drawings and specifications against budget, quality, maintainability, energy efficiency, constructability, accuracy and completeness;
Review material samples against project requirements;
Assist in developing and monitoring design Schedules and Budgets;
Prepare regular progress reports focused on Issues, Resolutions, Risks, Budget and Schedule;
Attend design and construction meetings and site visits to review issues, seek input and provide direction;
Understand and comment on building envelope, waterproofing and insulation details;
Understand and comment on mechanical and electrical systems;
Review construction quality and identify deficiencies;
Review and approve design/consulting team invoices.
Who You Are:
Must have a bachelor's degree in architecture;
Experience in the design industry, specifically in new multi-residential construction;
Minimum of five years of experience in multi-unit residential design;
Proven project management and leadership skills;
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
Able to understand, review and comment on engineering and architectural plans;
Ability to take charge of issues and find solutions;
Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
Strong written and verbal communication skills;
Some travel is required.
