Overview
The Senior Director of Human Relations & Hiring is responsible for planning, leading, directing, developing, and coordinating the policies, activities, and staff of the NWSS Human Relations Department, ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the organization's mission and strategy. This position will work closely with NWSS Senior Leadership, Department Heads, and Managers to successfully fill all available positions, including 500+ seasonal roles each year. As this individual will frequently interact with staff at all levels of the organization and regularly represent the National Western Stock Show to outside entities, interacting in a positive, professional manner and "riding for the brand" in all they do is essential.
The ideal candidate will have experience in human relations, specifically employee relations and high-volume recruiting. Candidates should have a proven track record of evaluating and implementing new HR-related policies and practices in the areas of recruiting, retention, succession planning, and organizational development. This individual will need to be well-versed in HR compliance requirements and best practices. Certification (PHR, SHRM-CP, or higher) is required.

National Western Complex is a multi-purpose indoor and outdoor commercial and agricultural complex where dusty conditions and animals may exist. While performing the duties of this job, work is performed both indoors and outside in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, wind, and rain, on varied surfaces.
In this role, individuals will experience prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Incumbent must be able to lift 15 pounds and access/navigate the National Western Complex in its entirety, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Scheduling Requirements
While the schedule for this position is primarily Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm, there will be certain occasions in which early morning, late evening, weekend, or holiday availability will be required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Like almost all NWSS team members, this position will need to be on-site every day during Stock Show, typically for 12-16 hours at a time.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains HR Department staff.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department, assigning/delegating tasks to staff as needed.
- Collaborates with Senior Leadership to understand the organization's goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, and retention.
- Plans, leads, develops, coordinates, and implements policies, processes, training, initiatives, and surveys to support the organization's HR compliance and strategy needs.
- Administers/oversees the administration of HR programs, including but not limited to: compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; training and development; and the NWSS Intern Program.
- Identifies year-round and seasonal staffing and recruiting needs; develops and executes best practices for hiring and talent management with the support of HR Coordinator and Hiring Managers.
- Implements, conducts, facilitates, and/or analyzes results of employee morale and retention initiatives such as incentive programs, stay interviews, career development meetings, employee surveys, and exit interviews.
- Provides coaching and guidance to managers, supervisors, senior leaders, and HR staff on communication strategies; assists with challenges such as low morale, high turnover, absenteeism, layoffs, and other difficult conversations.
- Provides support and guidance to HR staff, management, and employees when complex, specialized, and/or sensitive questions and issues arise; administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations.
- Monitors and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations as well as recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.
- Develops, implements, and maintains departmental budget.
- Facilitates professional development, training, and certification activities for HR staff and organizational leaders.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field.
- Current PHR/SHRM-CP certification (or higher) required.
- Minimum five years' experience in HR management, recruiting, and employee relations.
- Must have experience managing HR or related functions with the National Western Stock Show.

Compensation & Benefits
- This is a full-time salaried/exempt position.
- Base compensation will range from $90,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually, dependent on relevant experience.
