PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Network and Data Security Manager is responsible for overseeing the network infrastructure and data security protocols within Woodland School District 50. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of our sensitive information and network resources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. License:Required - N/A 2. Education: Required - Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field Preferred - Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field 3. Experience: Required - Five (5) years' experience in network administration, cybersecurity, and data protection. Strong technical proficiency in network protocols, firewall management, intrusion detection systems, and endpoint security solutions. Preferred - Five (5) years' experience in network administration, cybersecurity, and data protection. Strong technical proficiency in network protocols, firewall management, intrusion detection systems, and endpoint security solutions. CompTIA A+ Certification and Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or other related certifications, and/or CompTIA Network+/Security+, ISC2, GIAC, or other approved vendor certifications. Prefer experience in an educational or public sector environment.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
LeadershipSupervises, plans, directs, trains and evaluates the Technology Resources and Consultants. These duties include but are not limited to: a. recommends the hiring
b. prepares written evaluations on a yearly basis
Develops recommendations for future initiatives. Works with district administration, committees and architect to oversee the successful installation of new technologies in the new construction projects Manages projects. Leads the network team providing guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities. Collaborates with Information Technology leadership, school administrators, and other stakeholders to align network and security initiatives with organizational goals and priorities. Fosters a culture of security awareness and accountability throughout the school district by assigning security awareness tasks to staff members. Works with Information Technology team and departments to support various projects and integrate systems and services. Works on special projects as requested.
Network & Data ManagementFacilitates the expansion of electronic communications through the development of the networking system. Maintains equipment, software installations, networks and peripherals on a prompt basis to keep all systems in service. Develops and executes plans for in-school maintenance of technology in educational, server, network, and Management Information Services areas. Coordinates the distribution and collection of computer, server and network technology in the schools. Assists in the development and maintenance of computer, server and network technology inventories. Oversees maintenance of technology on a timely basis. Administrates and maintains building network, and servers for information services. Assists with the installation of hardware and software. Monitors and maintains the organization's local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and internet connectivity to ensure optimal performance and uptime. Evaluates current network and makes recommendations for securing the network. Monitors network performance and troubleshoots issues to ensure optimal uptime and reliability alongside the network engineer. Collaborates with network engineer and vendors to upgrade network equipment and software as needed. Implements and manages network security measures to protect against unauthorized access, data breaches, and cyber threats. This includes configuring firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems. Diagnoses and resolves network-related issues, such as connectivity problems, network outages, and performance bottlenecks. Plans and executes network upgrades and expansions to accommodate the organization's growth and changing requirements. Configures and manages network devices, including firewalls, switches, access points, and other networking equipment. Administers and manages voice and data communications. Uses network monitoring tools to continuously monitor network performance and identify potential issues proactively. Performs regular maintenance tasks such as system updates, patches, and upgrades to keep the infrastructure up-to-date and secure. Manages and configures servers, both physical and virtual, to ensure optimal performance and resource utilization, including virtual environment(s). Installs, configures, and troubleshoots operating systems, such as Windows Server, Linux, or other specialized systems, depending on the organization's needs. Creates and manages user accounts and access permissions to various systems and applications. Sets up and manages data backup and recovery solutions to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures or disasters. Configures and maintains network services, including DNS, DHCP, and other switching services required for network functionality. Diagnoses and resolves hardware and software issues for both servers and end-user systems. Uses monitoring tools to proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, system errors, and other issues. Maintains comprehensive system documentation, including configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides. Ensures compliance with IT policies, procedures, and industry standards, such as data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR) and IT security best practices. Responds to and addresses system-related incidents and outages promptly and effectively. Administrates and maintains building network, and servers for information services. Network & Data Security ManagementImplements and maintains security measures to protect systems from unauthorized access, viruses, malware, and other security threats. Project management and cross-team leadership experience. Develops and enforces security policies and procedures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with privacy regulations (e.g., SOPPA, FERPA). Conducts regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and recommend corrective actions. Creates and maintains backups and disaster recovery plan for network related systems. Implements access controls, encryption methods, and authentication mechanisms to safeguard data integrity. Develops and maintains incident response plans and protocols to quickly address cybersecurity breaches or incidents. Coordinates with stakeholders to investigate security breaches, identify root causes, and implement remediation measures. Provides training and awareness programs to educate staff and students about cybersecurity best practices.
