The Division of Pediatric Cardiology is a growing and busy division thathas 11 cardiologists and 3 APRNs. The EP volume and complexity has grown overtime and the Division is looking to that add a Physician Assistant to focus onthe care of pediatric and adult congenital electrophysiology patients. Thesuccessful candidate will collaborate with the pediatric and congenital EPcardiologist to provide high quality, specialty care. Some of the duties willinclude pre-procedure evaluations, arrhythmia management, follow up clinicappointments, and EP device evaluations. There will be a mix of ambulatory andinpatient work.
Position Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) reflects the mission, vision, and values of the University of Illinois College of Medicine/UI Health, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and other regulatory and accreditation standards. The PA functions as part of the multidisciplinary health team in accordance with privileges approved by the credentialing committee to provide high-quality, cost-effective advanced care to patients. The PA is responsible for the health outcome of an assigned patient population and consults and confers with supervising physicians in an area of clinical expertise within the PA's scope of licensure.

Duties & Responsibilities
Scope of Practice:
- Works within the Bylaws of the University of IllinoisHospital & Health Sciences System and in adherence to hospital anddivisional policy.
- Works collaboratively with other providers in the care ofpatients.
- Performs an accurate history and physical examination ofpatients, comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develops patientcare plans.
- Performs procedures according to clinical delineation ofprivileges.
- Provides prevention strategies and management of acute andchronic health problems.
- Orders and interprets tests, treatments, and therapieswithin the scope of practice.
- Prescribes medications, diet, supplies, prosthetic devices,and other home health aides or medication according
to clinical privileges. - May provide other clinical duties within the scope ofpractice as directed under the emergency operation plan.
Professional:
- Integrates evidence-based knowledge and clinical expertisein decision-making.
- Participates in peer review and competency assessmentactivities.
- May lead and assist in evidence-based practice research.
- Demonstrates accountability for professional conduct.
Teaching:
- Provides comprehensive teaching strategies for patients andtheir families.
- May provide education and mentoring of undergraduate andgraduate students and current and new employees, including but not limited tomedical staff, residents, advanced practice providers and nursing.
- Provides formal and/or informal education or mentorship toboth internal and external groups pertinent to area of specialty.
Communication & Leadership:
- Clearly understands the implications of situations and usessound judgment when dealing with multiple disciplines.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
- Participates in program development.
- Acts as a resource for clinical staff in the practicesetting.
- Consults with management in assessment, problem-solving,decision-making, and evaluating clinical/system issues and models of care.
- Identifies and participates in quality-improvementinitiatives within the practice setting and initiates change as appropriate.
- Leads multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated deliveryof patient care services.
- May participate in the development and revision of protocolsor guidelines to reflect evidence-based changes in care management. Mayparticipate in activities that influence policy-making bodies to improvepatient care.
- The PA is required to have and maintain a facultyappointment in order to receive clinical privileges to practice at the Universityof Illinois College of Medicine/UI Health.
- Perform other related duties and participate in specialprojects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited PA program with Masters of Doctoral Degree in Medical Science.
- Current license as a Physician Assistant in the State of Illinois required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
- Current controlled substance licensure required.
- Current National Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitate therapeutic relationships between physician, APRN and PA providers as well as college and hospital leadership and the multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership, multidisciplinary collaboration, interpersonal communication, education, clinical experience and change management required.
- Documentation in the medical record to substantiate accurate billing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cardiology or electrophysiology preferred but not required.
