The Biostatistician (Researcher 5) role has been created to support the research activities of Assistant Professor Cindy Im, PhD, MPH. This position will interface as part of a collaborative and growing research team in childhood cancer survivorship research within the Division of Epidemiology and Clinical Research in the Department of Pediatrics. The primary purpose of this role is to serve as the resident expert in several complex data resources, including, but not limited to, the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study, the St. Jude Lifetime Cohort Study, and SEER, in addition to supporting complex statistical analyses and research collaborations across divisions, departments, and institutions in cancer survivorship and outcomes research. Current work is focused on subsequent malignancies and other late complications of childhood cancer treatment. This position is a 1.0 FTE. Depending on the level of experience of the candidate, this role could potentially have a hybrid presence (both on-site and remote) with significant flexibility.

Responsibilities
Data Analysis and Analysis Design (75%)
Provide high-level research support by providing statistical analysis plans, independently executing these plans, and supporting interpretation of analytic results for projects led by
University of Minnesota researchers and faculty
Conduct analyses to support research grant submissions
Design and compile statistical analysis protocols/standards
Review analytic code and results for potential issues (e.g., errors), propose and communicate alternative approaches/solutions, and implement plans to resolve
Summarize and communicate results of analyses effectively, including providing publication-ready tables/figures
Innovate and apply novel, cutting-edge biostatistical methodologies, including devising and implementing simulation studies, as needed

Research Team Collaboration and Project Management (25%)
As appropriate, advise and support other principal investigators and trainees (e.g., post-doctoral fellows, graduate students) in conducting and interpreting/reporting statistical analyses
Effectively collaborate with principal investigators to support the preparation of the following in a timely manner:
o Descriptions of methods and table/figure displays for peer-reviewed research manuscripts
o Release of new datasets (including data dictionaries) for public download
o Presentations of interim/final results at seminars, scientific conferences, and/or related
professional settings
o Major research grants, including providing results describing preliminary data and
supporting power calculations

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Biostatistics, Statistics, or related health disciplines with 1 or more years of research training.
Excellent command of statistical programming languages commonly used in epidemiological analyses; in particular, proficiency in R or SAS is required: if the candidate is proficient in only
one of these languages, the candidate will be expected to learn how to use both languages with equal proficiency
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document methods and results clearly for manuscripts
Experience working under short timelines; proven ability to adhere to strict project schedules
Proven experience with working independently and collaborating as part of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of clinician-scientists, basic scientists, epidemiologists, and statisticians
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with computationally intensive problems
Familiarity with High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, job scheduling software, and a UNIX/Linux environment
