JOB DESCRIPTION:

To assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision, promoting best practices, and supporting the overall administration and operations of the assigned school in order to further the educational development of students.

The Career and Technical Education (CTE) Director ensures the efficient operation and management of the Career and Technical Education programs and supports the overall educational responsibility of the system.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Educational Leadership and/or School Administration.
  • Hold valid Class A or Class AA Alabama Professional Educator Certificate with endorsement in Leadership.
  • A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups, for the purpose of maximizing student achievement.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems as a productive team member.
  • Ability to use technology to communicate, to plan and provide instruction, to facilitate student learning, to manage data, and to produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
  • Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity to perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may require.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists the Principal in achieving results in the development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional and extracurricular activities in alignment with district goals and objectives.
  • Seeks to improve the quality of the instructional program and school climate through responsible teacher implementation of the curriculum and supervision of instruction.
  • Promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff in regards to academic performance and responsibility for behavior.
  • Assists in the supervision of the instructional programs of the school, the evaluation of lesson plans, and the observation of classes on a regular basis for the purpose of supporting best instructional practices and encouraging the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research on learning and child growth and development.
  • Supports the Principal in the implementation of Board policies, school system rules, and administrative procedures and adheres to applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Works cooperatively with leadership teams to ensure the district's vision, policies, goals, and strategies are implemented and communicated to staff within the school.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings as required or appropriate and conducts staff meetings as needed in the Principal's absence to discuss instructional programs, student achievement, policy changes, potential issues, and professional development of faculty.
  • Assists the Principal in enforcing district guidelines for proper student conduct and disciplinary procedures and policies to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment and promote the general health, safety, and welfare of the student body.
  • Promotes a safe and orderly environment that facilitates teaching and learning with a climate of high expectation for staff and students and a focus on learning and results.
  • Communicates regularly and effectively with students' families to seek support and input in order to create and promote a cooperative relationship to support students and responds to parents' questions and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Assists in the coordination of supervision for school-sponsored events and attends school functions regularly to demonstrate genuine interest in student/staff activities and maintain visibility with students, staff, students' families, and the community.
  • Collaborates with other district-level administrators in supporting programs that provide for the safety, emotional, and physical well-being of students and notifies appropriate personnel regarding evidence of child abuse/neglect (as required by state law), as well as severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide, or students appearing to be under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.
  • Works with the Principal in identifying and developing strategies for the integration and ongoing improvement of technology in the school's curriculum and teaching plans to effectively meet teachers' and students' needs.
  • Assists the Principal in interpreting and analyzing data from student assessments, program evaluations, and benchmarking activities to make instructional decisions that will improve and accelerate student learning.
  • Prepares and/or supervises the completion of accurate and timely reports and records as required by applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements and submits as required.
  • Supports the Principal in developing a school budget that adequately supports school programs and is fiscally responsible to the district's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Assists in ensuring compliance with district policy in ordering, purchasing, monitoring use, and disposing of school materials, supplies, and equipment and monitors the collection and expenditure of funds in accordance with district accounting procedures, property asset management procedures, and applicable state regulations and guidelines.
  • Establishes and maintains positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with central administration, students' families, and representatives of resource agencies and service providers in order to ultimately ensure the needs of students and their families are being met.
  • Provides leadership and supervision over assigned personnel to ensure employees have a clear understanding of their job responsibilities.
  • Assists the Principal in the selection of personnel and conducts performance appraisals on assigned employees and makes recommendations for appropriate employment action to ensure a standard of accountability is met as defined by the school's goals and objectives, as well as the policies established by Barbour County Schools.
  • Provides and ensures employees' participation in professional developmental training opportunities as needed to perform their job duties.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving operating procedures to improve efficiency and effective use of school resources.
  • Supervise CTE teachers
  • Oversee CTE Programs of Study
  • Responsible for any changes to the federal budget
  • Make amendments to move any funds that may need to be re-allocated
  • Work with Finance Officer to oversee funds are aligned with the original budget
  • Work with counselors to appropriately place students in Programs of Study
  • Oversee all industry certification testing
  • Oversee professional development for CTE teachers
  • Stay current on Carl Perkins Federal and State regulations that affect our programs
  • Attend summer conference annually
  • Review the monthly "statement of expenditures and encumbrances"
  • Prepare for Federal program and fiscal monitoring
  • Each semester, complete competency, and concentrator reports for each CTE class
  • Complete yearly follow-up report
  • Develop and administer a comprehensive program of career and technical education
  • Maintain close working relationships with community and state agencies and area businesses, industries, and labor organizations to provide training consistent with needs
  • Continuously appraise and evaluate the total CTE program to ensure that it achieves the established goals of providing the opportunity to prepare for gainful employment
  • Maintain current knowledge of all pertinent rules and regulations affecting CTE
  • Advise and assist in obtaining state and federal funds for the CTE programs
  • Assume responsibility for the collection, review, and submission to state agencies of all
  • forms and reports relative to CTE
  • Work to identify and define local job opportunities and the role of the school system in
  • meeting these opportunities
  • Arrange for specific staff development activities as requested
  • Interpret the CTE program to the public
  • Assist in the recruitment, screening, and interviewing of prospective CTE teachers
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
