Job Summary
We are hiring for a Radiology Site Supervisor for UCSF's Peninsula Outpatient Center (POPC) in Burlingame, CA.
The areas of responsibility are supervising all technologists and ancillary support staff, training new employees, organizing work flow, coordination of daily work schedules and shift coverage, knowledge of all modality procedures and enhancing image quality. The Radiology supervisor is responsible for productivity of the department and staff. Strong leadership and communication skills are required. The Radiology supervisor must have the ability to effectively communicate with staff, other departments and physicians.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $205,522 - $250,581 (Annual Rate).

The Radiology supervisor must have the ability to effectively communicate with staff, other departments and physicians.
Leadership/Supervision
- Supervises licensed technologists in their daily work assignments and responsible for the workflow in the department.
- Monitors the schedules and maintains adequate staffing. Follows procedures from one shift to another for coverage of sick and tardiness. Works with the department Manager for ensuring adequate coverage.
- Working supervisor assists with procedures and patient care.
- Responsible for training of staff to create positive work environment and increase job skills. Uses appropriate forms for orientation and equipment orientation.
- Reviews and evaluates job performances on an ongoing basis. Communicates any job performance issues to employee and to the department Manager in a timely manner.
- Completes written performance appraisals by the due date.
- Organizes workflow according to the degree of urgency.
- Coordinates patient examinations that have special circumstances and/or multiple examinations that interface with other Radiology sections.
- Facilitates patient transport.
- Monitors and insures equitable distribution of workload and work assignments for employees.
- Assigns lunch and break relief.
- Maintains patient waiting times to a minimum. Provides service recovery if necessary.
- Coaches and instructs technologists as necessary in proper performance of departmental procedures and use of equipment.
- Answers telephone inquiries or requests and communicates information to coordinate the department's services.
- Participates in the interview process for hiring new employees.
- Performs in a timely manner the disciplinary action process.
- Operates and displays expertise and skill in the use of all Radiology equipment in the department. Is current on all procedures and troubleshooting of equipment problems.
- Adjusts protocols as needed to achieve high quality results
Performance Improvement
- Assures that the performance and documentation of the daily, monthly, and/or annual quality control tests are complete and accurate. Reports any non-compliance to the appropriate resource.
- Ensures appropriate incident documentation and reporting occurs in a timely manner regarding patients, employees and physicians. This includes patient and employee injuries.
- Participates in and encourages staff participation in the department performance improvement activities.
Information Management
- Demonstrates competency in the Radiology Information System
- Ensures clinical data is correct and appropriate for specific procedures being requested.
- Utilizes hospital/department computers for hospital business only.
- Demonstrates confidentiality by using own password
- Ensures all exams in the RIS are completed following the procedure and are coded correctly.
Budgetary
- Responsible for maintaining adequate level of supplies in the department. Orders supplies when necessary.
- Responsible for knowledge and compliance with the budget and staffing standards.
- Identifies opportunities for cost containment.
- Communicates any suggestions to increase productivity or quality of work.
- Assures patient billing information and billing codes are appropriate.
Adheres to Policies and Procedures
- Is knowledgeable and enforces UCSF and departmental policies and procedures. Keeps current on patient safety to include electrical, mechanical, fire, safety and disaster procedures.
- Provides excellent customer service to patients, co-workers, physicians and other departments.
- Assures that work environment is clean and in compliance with infection control and environmental health and safety standards.
- Adheres to all regulatory agencies, Department of Health, The Joint Commission, Title 17, ASRT, MQSA
- Is a role model by maintaining a professional badge and radiation badge at all times.
- Enforces and adheres to established department and hospital guidelines for attendance and tardiness
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice.
- Maintains current licensure and completion of all required continuing education.
- Attends assigned staff development activities for the department.
- Participates in cross training activities when necessary.
- Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed although not directly assigned.
- Attends professional meetings/lectures to keep current within the field of Radiology or management.
- Complies with and enforces the department employee expectations and standards

Required Qualifications
- ARRT
- CRT (if applicable to modality)
- Modality Specific Certification (e.g. CT, MRI, RDMS, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine)
- BLS
- Demonstrated subject matter knowledge of a radiology modality. Ability to apply principles to an acute care setting to ensure operations meet regulatory standards.
- Strong knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge and ability to monitor compliance with relevant internal policies and external regulations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in training and guiding employees on radiology modality techniques. Motivates and inspires staff to improve services.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment.
- Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner. Skills to coordinate schedules of the patient, doctor, technicians, and nurse to serve the patient in a timely manner.
- Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, researchers, radiology technologists, and other clinical staff. Interpersonal skills to work with a variety of patient populations and show sensitivity.
- Skills to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues and software malfunctions in order to contact appropriate service personnel. Demonstrated ability to solve problems and suggest solutions within defined procedures and policies through critical thinking
- Verbal and written communication skills to explain technical radiology concepts, actively listen, persuade, advise, and counsel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- In-depth knowledge of radiology equipment in order to operate and monitor all relevant technology.
- 2-3 years previous supervisory skills
License/Certification
