Sand Lake, Pierson, and Howard City are the quintessential small towns that are within the Tri County Area Schools district. The Tri County Area is very family oriented and our community has a passion to support one another and the children they serve. As a rural community, there are many year-round outdoor activities, and many enjoy the Muskegon River and the lakes close by. Tri County Area Schools offers Preschool through 12th-grade, with a population of over 1600 students. The district continues its mission to create educational opportunities for every student. Students have a variety of choices from college classes through dual enrollment, early college, Kent or Newaygo Career and Technical Centers and AP courses. The district also has a multitude of in-district exploratory offerings as well. In K-8 we offer Music, Art, Computers, Physical Education and STEM classes as specials. Position: Middle School Principal
Tri County Area Schools

Primary Function:
The primary function of the Tri County Middle School Principal is to serve as the educational leader of the school. Strong emphasis is placed on a collaborative approach to instructional leadership, management of the school programs, and the ability to support and enhance a positive learning environment. The principal must demonstrate strong effective human relations skills, respect for all individuals, have high integrity, and a leadership style that supports collaboration. The principal is the lead decision maker for all programs, activities, and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MA in educational leadership, curriculum/instruction, or related fields from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of three to five years of successful teaching experience and three successful years of experience in administration.
  • Experience and understanding of the development needs of middle school aged children and a passion for creative solutions to enhance the middle school experience.
  • A clear approach in order to be collaborative in the decision-making process while building positive relationships.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current educational issues and practices including but not limited to: Understanding of Restorative Practices and supporting student behavioral issues at the secondary level, knowledge of Response to Intervention, a deep understanding of curriculum, assessment, and instruction, a vision for implementation of a social and emotional program, and a clear plan for communication for all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership and success in parent/community relations, team building, and the PLC process.
  • A leadership style that supports collaboration and open communication
  • Collaborate with parents, staff and students to develop and implement preventive strategies that will improve student achievement and student behavior. Utilize the School Improvement process to gain feedback in order to make the necessary adjustments at the building level.
  • Excellent and effective communicator (oral, written, and technological communication)
  • Ability and desire to work as an effective member of the leadership team.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
