Job Description
The Department of Pediatrics, in the Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a qualified candidate for an open rank, twelve month faculty position within the Division of Adolescent Medicine.
The Division of Adolescent Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Children's of Alabama is seeking an adolescent medicine specialist to join a diverse, talented, multidisciplinary team of individuals who share a passion and commitment to transforming adolescent health outcomes through exceptional clinical programs, high-impact clinical and translational research, innovative educational programs, and effective academic and community partnerships. We are seeking individuals who foster a culture of equity and inclusion and are highly professional.
The Division of Adolescent Medicine at Children's of Alabama has a distinguished history of outstanding clinical programs, integrated psychological care and social work, breakthrough research, and advocacy. Our faculty include physicians, psychologists, dietitians, social workers and nurse practitioners. We are committed to working collaboratively to ensure health and health equity, and to take a holistic approach to adolescent health and well-being. Clinical programs include a hospital-based primary care practice and a consultative practice focusing on all adolescent health issues including eating disorders, mental health disorders, LGBTQ+ health, HIV care and prevention, substance use, nutrition, weight management, transition care, rehabilitation, and sexual and reproductive health. Faculty also provide care at the county's juvenile detention center. The division has a robust, externally-funded research program, with over 50% of faculty holding external research funding.
Many educational opportunities are available, starting at the middle school and high school level with pathway pipeline programs and encompassing medical student, resident, and fellowship training programs. Our division has two HRSA funded training programs, the Leadership Education in Pediatric Nutrition (LEPN) and the Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) programs that provide significant resources for the training of multidisciplinary leaders in adolescent health.
The position incorporates both outpatient and inpatient clinical care, teaching, and participating in scholarly activities such as program building, quality improvement initiatives, and/ or research. The successful candidate will be involved in graduate medical education activities through clinical education.
Children's of Alabama is the premier health care institution for the children and adolescents of Alabama, neighboring states, and the region. Faculty in the Children's Hospital clinics supervise the care provided by fellows, residents, and medical students in a variety of clinics ranging from primary care to specialty services through the UAB. Children's Hospital has 275 beds with a large catchment area and outstanding opportunities for academic advancement. Services offered include specialty and subspecialty services with recognition in 10 specialties by U.S. News and World Report.

Rank and salary will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate and will consist of a guaranteed salary, comprehensive benefits package, as well as a generous incentive plan linked to productivity. Physicians and other clinical faculty candidates who will be employed by the University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF) or other UAB Medicine entities, must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Required Qualifications
Faculty would qualify for a faculty position at the ranks of Associate or Assistant Professor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine. The ideal candidates have demonstrated excellence in clinical care, research, leadership and/or education and are:
MD, DO, MD/PhD
Board Certified/Board Eligible in General Pediatrics, Internal Medicine or Family
Medicine
Board Certified/Board Eligible in Adolescent Medicine
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstration of expertise and scholarship in Adolescent health, HIV care and prevention, health equity, and community and youth engagement is a plus.
