JOB TITLE: Director of Nursing, Health Services
POSITION GRADE: 86 [salary range: $62,790 - $106,834 annually commensurate with education and experience]
FLSA: EXEMPT

SUPERVISOR: Senior Director of Clinics and Clinical Services
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Senior Director of clinics and clinical services, the Director of Nursing is responsible to provide supervision and leadership to the Health Services nursing team at the following locations: Living Hope Treatment Center, Tuckahoe Community Residence, LIFE House, Villa of Hope School, and Outpatient Clinics. The Director of Nursing is a Registered Nurse who will hire, orient, schedule coverage, conduct conferences as well as evaluate the staff nurses under his/her management. The Director of Nursing will work with the nurses to promote and support the Health Services Nursing Department in achieving positive medical outcomes. The Director of Nursing will carry out all job responsibilities with fidelity and accountability to the Agencies Mission, Vision, Values, Guiding Principles and Strategic Plan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
POSITION SPECIFICS:
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. Registered Nurse license in New York State (license needs to be unencumbered).
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse; preferred minimum 3-5 years nurse leadership experience. A minimum of one year of experience in the nursing care and treatment of behavioral health and related illnesses preferred.
Skills: Leadership; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, proficiency in trauma informed care, and skilled in staffing relationship development and problem solving. Valid NYS driver's license.
Physical Demands:
Standing/Walking: Standing and walking is required for the majority of time spent on campus. Nurses must be able to walk around campus throughout shift (including hills, stairs, and inclement weather conditions)
Lifting: Regular lifting of medical supplies, medications, patient supplies, and patient charts, all weighing up to twenty pounds is required.
Bending: Bending is required when administering patient care. One must be able to bend to touch the floor to remove environmental hazards.
Squatting/Kneeling: Squatting or kneeling is required when operating medical equipment and performing aspects of patient care, such as CPR or TCI.
Travel: Occasional driving of clients to medical appointments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops and updates nursing/medical policies, procedures and/or protocols.
- Schedules to ensure adequate nursing coverage.
- On-call rotation for RN responsibilities
- Provides medical program oversight, including supervising staff in care of clients with medical issues and medication administration
- Oversees all staffing needs including: hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates annually (using the performance appraisal evaluation). Assures appropriate staffing and credentials are in place.
- Ensures the adherence to NYS and federal medical policy for all nurses to provide safe and competent care
- facilitating/tracking CPR/First Aid certification for Nurses and applicable program staff
- Facilitating/tracking Narcan training for nurses and applicable program staff
- Ensures the adherence to all OMH, OASAS, NYS Dept. of Education, DOH, BNE and COA regulations by all members of the nursing team.
- Approve payroll and vacation time for team members.
- Follows professional nursing standards and recommendations of the Villa pediatrician, psychiatrist and other medical professionals regarding client care.
- Assists the Sr. Director in building a strong infrastructure to support agency strategic goals and objectives.
- Provides leadership to the team in carrying out the strategic plan.
- Reviews nursing reports/documentation for accuracy and timeliness.
- Meets with nurses at least every two weeks for supervision.
- Provides coaching, mentoring and staff development.
- Supports the pharmacy relationship so the client's prescription needs are met
- Consults with the Sr. Director, staff nurses, NPs and physicians to promote a collaborative approach to client care.
- Ensures the maintenance of medical related contracts and credentials.
- Oversees Nursing schedule and ensures nursing coverage; covers shifts as needed.
- Exercises full compliance with the Agency's Code of Conduct, all Agency Policies and Procedures.
- Maintains confidentiality and security for all client and staff related materials and/or records.
- Occasional driving of clients to medical appointments.
- Other duties as assigned.
