Position Description

Working from one of our Family Service Centers, the High School Principal is responsible for the direct oversight for the activities and operations of the assigned high school. The High School Principal works with parents, learners, support staff, and certificated teachers, counselors, and administrators to facilitate an online-based instructional program and achieve superior outcomes for each learner. The principal will manage the assistant principals, who in turn manage teachers and other staff, as they provide daily instruction and support to learners, and use the phone and Internet to consult regularly with learning coaches and learners, ensuring that each child successfully completes his/her instructional program. The principal will also supervise the school counselors and coordinate with school services leadership to ensure the delivery of appropriate services for learners that facilitate learning and social and emotional well-being and growth.

This individual will operate in compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations and school policies and guidelines and ensure that all staff working with elementary school learners are being held to that standard. This position reports to the Vice Provost for Secondary Education (High School).

Responsibilities:
  • Under the supervision and direction of the Vice Provost for Secondary Education (High School), lead the assigned middle school program.
  • Manage the implementation of the CCA-developed curricula and school operation protocols, as it pertains to each learner.
  • Work with CCA leadership, education professionals, and other school staff to set the direction and hold staff accountable to overall departmental goals and priorities as well as to ensure alignment of these goals with CCA mission and vision.
  • Work with total school staff in the planning, improvement, development and implementation of creative and innovative learning activities, as well as evaluating these activities.
  • Ensure that teachers exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support, and customer service.
  • Ensure the academic success of individual learners by utilizing all levels of academic support available and by maintaining a high level of communication with parents to deliver program information and address individual learner needs.
  • Oversee guidance counselors and work in conjunction with learner support services to ensure the health and safety of our learners.
  • Assume responsibility for supervising the award of high school course credit and graduation credentials to learners.
  • Implement, maintain, and improve the school's career development program for learners.
  • Stay current on the state's policies, procedures, and legislation, including specific special education procedures.
  • Provide the Senior Administration and/or Board with regular written and verbal reports and updates, as well as maintain a high level of communication with other appropriate CCA staff.
  • Assist administrators and teaching staff with implementing any program changes and/or new software application introductions.
  • Visit live class sessions and participate in field trips, clubs, and other activities to speak with learners, observe instruction, and make connections with families of enrolled and prospective learners.
  • Exhibit high quality communication with all CCA staff, learners, and families.
  • Assume responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and health of learners.
  • Address learner problems escalated by caretakers and teachers.
  • Participate in the delivery of special education services to ensure the school is in compliance with state and federal laws.
  • Assist with the implementation and coordination of state testing to ensure maximum participation and learner success.
  • Participate in learner recruitment efforts including in-state trips, presentations, Q & A sessions, and the media.
  • Recruit, supervise, and evaluate all school staff as required by the state and CCA.
  • Implement all Board policies as directed by the President/CEO, Executive Vice Presidents, or other Senior Administrators.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Education, Special Education, or related area.
  • Administrative Principal Certification
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, preferably in a public school setting
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Customer focused approach

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
  • Team player
  • Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office products)
  • Occasional travel
  • Work from Capital Campus in Harrisburg or regular travel to Capital Campus

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands
This is largely a sedentary role. Requires the ability to lift, squat, sit, bend, or stand as necessary. Ability to travel to other sites/locations as needed.

  • Minimum of 7 years teaching experience, preferably in a public school setting
