Job Description

Petro-Hunt, L.L.C., is seeking an experienced Exploration, Production and Operations Geologist for its' team of geoscientistsCandidate must be well- rounded, with a proven track record of successfully generating original prospects, identifying and evaluating drilling and mineral opportunities, possess the ability to geologically map and high-grade primary drilling targets as well as identify potential new targets within a basin. Candidate must possess the ability to work & communicate well with other G&G, Land, and Engineering staff members, plan development of a multi-target drilling project, geo-steer horizontal wells and manage the geological aspects of drilling wells including communicating with mud loggers, directional drillers and operations staff. Position requires the ability to manage all geological aspects of a project development from initial prospect generation, presentation to management for project approval, through project planning, testing and full development. Ideal candidate will have Permian Basin (Delaware and/or Midland) experience and possess good communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities
  • Geologically map and evaluate basin-wide project areas
  • Recognize, map and evaluate proven targets as well as identify potential new targets within a basin
  • Develop new drilling prospects and aid in the development and management of existing projects
  • Work effectively in a multidisciplined team effort with other geologists, geophysicists, land and engineering staff to identify, evaluate, plan and develop drilling projects
  • Effectively present and communicate prospects to management for approval
  • Manage the day-to-day tasks of geo-steering wells in a large-scale horizontal drilling program
  • Effectively communicate with mud loggers, directional drillers, operations, G&G staff and other personnel to maintain target integrity and location optimization
  • Accurately access and incorporate multiple data sources including MWD logs, mud logs, and offset well logs into decision making
  • Effectively communicate and present drilling results to multidisciplined team
  • Analyze drilling results, incorporate results into future planning recommendations and work closely with operations to incorporate those results in the effective completion of wells.
  • Learn from results and make recommendations to improve overall project outcome

Skills
  • Self-Starter with the willingness and ability to work and effectively communicate with a multi-disciplined team of geologist, geophysicists, engineers, drilling and rig personnel
  • Possess strong presentation and written communication skills
  • Independent thinker with ability to make data-based interpretations, communicate and make appropriate recommendations for action
  • Possess a willingness to consult with and incorporate ideas from other disciplines into your interpretations and concepts
  • Solid foundation for the interpretation of petrophysical logs, mud logs, MWD logs and other formation evaluation logs
  • Sound understanding of directional drilling, geo-steering, and ability to make calculations and decisions related to maintaining drilling targets
  • Possess an understanding of the geological aspects of shale and tight rock exploration and exploitation.
  • Proficient in geoscience and geo-steering computer software. SMT Kingdom and Star Steer experience preferred
  • Experience with basic office software, Excel, Power-point, and ArcView

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Geology/ Geological Sciences from an accredited University
  • Master of Science degree in Geology/ Geological Sciences is preferred
  • Minimum 5-10 Years of experience: Operations and Prospect generation
  • Permian Basin (Delaware and/or Midland) experience required
