Position Overview

Primary Function:
Identifies opportunities for foundation support for university programs and prepares proposals for submission to institutional priorities.

This position works with considerable independence and self-direction. Only the general direction and scope of the work are discussed with the supervisor. The staff member is expected to independently carry out position duties and understand what is expected and how to do it.

Position Description

Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintains University relationships with long-term foundation donors via proposal submissions, timely reporting, and on-going communications with foundation staff.
  • Identifies new foundation/organizational prospects with funding areas aligned with University priorities; develops relationships, prepares and submits proposals as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of all proposal submissions, outcomes, and reporting requirements/deadlines.
  • Works with campus PI's to ensure accurate and timely reporting for funded projects.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Philanthropy to plan and consistently execute a grant implementation and reporting process with PIs and on-campus partners.
  • Ensures that all activities and interactions with funding organizations and prospective funding organizations are properly and thoroughly documented promptly in the university database.

Judgement Required:

Judgment and discretion as to the use of established policies are required to perform the essential duties of this position.

Budgetary Responsibility:

Monitors expenditures against budget; prepares budget data for review/approval by supervisor/department head.

Attributes of a Successful Candidate

Education:
Bachelor's degree; advanced degree preferred.

Experience:
5+ years experience in proposal development and writing or other appropriate writing experience and budget development.

Job-Related Skills:
Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines, technical capacity required for online grant submissions and electronic materials development/distribution.
