You will help us fund programs, exhibits, and capital plans that will inspire the problem-solvers, wonder-seekers and world-changers of today, and tomorrow!

The Senior Manager, Major Gifts is an important part of the Development team working closely with staff and volunteers to significantly grow our major gift revenue both in the short and long term. Science World will be entering a large fundraising campaign soon and this role will play an integral role in ensuring we meet our revenue goals.

Position Description:

This position is responsible for growing major gift revenue in support of Science World's mission. Working closely with senior staff and volunteers and through cross-departmental cooperation, this position is focused on bringing large gifts to the organization to significantly grow revenue both in the short and long term.

Reporting to the Director, Philanthropy and Corporate Partnerships, the Senior Manager, Major Gifts is an important part of the Development team and is responsible for providing comprehensive leadership to major gift fundraising activities of Science World. This position requires the ability to foster and develop key relationships with community leaders, donors, staff members, volunteers and the wider community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify, cultivate and solicit individuals to generate financial and/or in-kind support of Science World from major donors ($10,000 +)
  • Responsible for meeting revenue goals to generate, sustain and increase funds for mission-related purposes
  • Actively build, develop and manage a diverse prospect pipeline to support all activities and programs
  • Provide leadership and coaching on best practices in fundraising and moves management plans to identify, research, cultivate, and successfully solicit qualified prospects for campaign gifts
  • Work with senior staff, volunteers and committees including the Board Fundraising Committee and Advisory Council to solicit major gifts
  • Work in partnership with the Development department and other Science World team members as identified to maximize philanthropic support and opportunities across all programs and activities and cultivate a culture of philanthropy
  • Drive collaboration, cross-functionally and diplomatically across Science World, to lead the development and on-going stewardship of account strategies on Science World's key major gift accounts
  • Timely execution and management of cultivation and stewardship activities including proposals, donation agreements, reporting and pledge materials as required
  • Promote a culture that is donor-centric, where requests from internal and external stakeholders are responded to with a high degree of urgency, professionalism and accuracy
  • Consistently maintain an exceptional degree of tact and diplomacy in all aspects of the role, including managing sensitive and confidential donor files
  • Operate within the philosophy, culture, and values of Science World
  • Promote and support an organizational culture that engages all staff in the financial well-being of Science World
  • Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role


Responsibilities:

  • Direct responsibility for meeting funding goals as part of the Development strategy
  • Working with the Director, effectively collaborate with CEO, VP, Development & Government Relations, Manager, Corporate Partnerships and Manager, Individual Giving to ensure maximum revenue and implementation of fundraising best practices
  • High level of involvement, collaboration and communication with staff, donors, prospects and volunteers both internally and externally
  • Must effectively manage all relationships to ensure a positive impact to Science World's bottom line and community reputation
  • Embrace and demonstrate the core values of the organization


Qualifications:

  • 8- 10 years of proven experience in a nonprofit environment or high relationship-based environment
  • Proven experience cultivating, securing and growing major gift revenue from individuals
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 BC driver's license with a clean driving record and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Flexible hours to accommodate various meetings and events with staff, volunteers and donors are a requirement for this position


Must demonstrate the following:

  • Proven major gift fundraising, development and/or sales experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to develop, maintain and actively leverage cooperative working relationships
  • Experience working successfully with senior leaders
  • Strategic thinker and proven analytical skills
  • Strong attention to detail; superb organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Experienced leader with proven ability to coach and support to meet fundraising targets
  • Demonstrated ability to work both in a team environment as well as independently
  • Ability to successfully guide and execute donor agreements in a matrixed reporting environment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, with proven interpersonal savvy and a keen sense of diplomacy
  • Resourceful and organized; able to manage competing priorities, complex situations and deadlines
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with RE is an asset


The pay range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 per year.
